What’s your number…

WHAAAT ? I'm astonished !!! I've read posts ITEMIZING specific cars, models, years, etc !!! Sorry, I went through quite a number of cars decades ago, but if you mean "keeping", "using" for a period of time, I'll have to guess at least a couple of dozen. I'm down to a half dozen now.

I spent a few years buying wrecked cars and repairing them for sale........ I won't count those, probably can't remember half of them
Bingo !! I stayed away from wrecks, just needed "help" body and mechanical. Learned to do body work on them.

I once couldn't sleep so I started a count. My dumbass question was "More cars? Or more women?"

It wasn't even close. Cars crushed. In fact, my lady count was significantly less than I would have thought. And car count far more.

So now I have even more reason not able to fall asleep. Lol.

I'm an amateur I guess...

I also learned a lot about doing mechanical and body work on the 'junkers' before applying it to the 'gooder' vehicles. Also learnt where not to place jack stands on bodies that were pretty much stripped of parts or at least not try to lean into a trunk in a car that had nothing up front anymore lol. The only thing that was still up front was the windshield and wanted to keep that but well, it cracked when the front end came up after putting some of my weight on the back of the car to try and get something out of the forward trunk area and then realizing what was going on and stepping back. The front end came back down but bounced off of the stands and then everything was on the driveway lol. I also quit using those stamped steel 3 leg jack stands that day!

Oh man....I thought this was a thread about golfing stories. :(

I'm going to tell it anyway now that I'm here.

About 22 years ago, I used to play golf every weekend, sometimes Sat & Sun.....it became a ritual at 7:00am normally for a finish before lunch. One day I was joined by a friend who worked with me....Darren. He and I played up a fairway and my ball went quite long but strayed towards another tee ground on the next hole. I noticed it was being played by a group of Koreans (yes, I could tell the difference from 100 washing machines out) and one of them bent down to pick up a ball from in front of their tee area.

I yelled out "Hey!!!! That's my ball.....put it down"
Korean guy replies "What number your ball?"
I yelled back "Just put the f***ing ball down!"
Korean again yells back ..... "What number your ball?"

Darren looks across to me and shouts out "Go and f***ing hit 'em Rog!"
I marched over to this Korean dude, and said to him quite firmly "That's my ball, now put it down!"
He again says "What number your ball"

I said I didn't know but my initials are on it.
We both looked, and it had some Asian style name.......it wasn't my ball.

Korean guy looks at me and said "My ball...." he muttered something else, laughed and walked away.
While this is going on Darren is still yelling out for me to hit this guy....knock him out....

I take another few paces...and there's my ball in a bit of long rough.

"Found it!" I yelled to Darren. He still wanted me to hit the guy.....

It was a stony look from the Korean group in the 19th hole later on.

I will not include my wife's cars.

I tend to keep my cars a LONG time; I don't buy and sell frequently. The list is in order that I bought the car.
* = I still own it
(Daily) = Daily driver car
(Classic) = limited use classic car

1) 1973 Road Runner 340. (Daily, then Classic) My first car, and just sold it 3 months ago
2) 1974 Dodge Dart 4 door /6. (Daily) The A/C was, and still is, the coldest blowing A/C I have ever had in a car. But the car had no heat. One winter night, after scraping the inside of the windows, my wife gave me an icy stare and said I need to buy a car with heat.
3) 1987 Chevy 1500 Pickup Truck (Daily) purchased new in Feb 1988. It had one option, a V8. Nothing else, not even a radio! A black vinyl interior and no A/C is what killed it.
4) 1987 Ford F-150. (Daily) I called this truck the gutless wonder. 4 wheel drive, A/C, comfortable, and yes, dependable. Once my daughter came along, we needed something bigger than a bench seat in a standard cab.
5) 1960 Corvette. (Classic) This was a major restoration/ project car
6) 1990 Chevy Suburban. (Daily) It was 2 wheel drive and I wanted 4, but it had lots of room. The day after I bought it my kids played in it for a whole day - they loved it!
7) 1996 Chevy Suburban. (Daily) Now this was 4 wheel drive, front and rear A/C, etc. One of the best vehicles I have ever owned. The thing was a tank and did almost anything I could ask of it.
8) 2007 Mustang GT/CS. (Daily) Fun little 5 speed car. My daughter still owns it as drives it as her only car.
9) 1970 Road Runner*. (Classic) Air Grabber, 4 speed. What more do you want?!?
10) 1962 Corvette*. (Classic) My father-in-law's special car he had for many years. Unrestored and very original. I am now the current caretaker.
11) 2017 GMC Yukon XL. (Daily) I liked it, but transmission issues and GM trying to duck responsibility made me sue them (lemon law) and won. They got it back.
12) 2020 Ram 1500*. (Daily) Great truck, and so far has been a workhorse with zero issues.
13) 1969 Corvette*. (Daily? Classic? Sell?) It is my father-in-law's best friend's car he had for eons. I just ended up with it, and might turn it into a (near) daily driver, but it needs work.

You guys have more cars then Imelda Marcos has shoes.
I will list only cars that are mine, not the wife’s or family members. A strategy I have used is to buy a new lower trim level vehicle and drive the wheels off it.

1969 Charger
1978 Chevy Luv Pu
1987 Ford Ranger new
1987 Ford Ranger 4x4
2002 F250 7.3 new
1992 Toyota Tercel
2022 F150 5.0 new

That’s it.
Still frustrated that a drunk totaled my 7.3 power stroke. My hunt and tow rig, it was easily going to last the rest of my lifetime.

Are cars that were kept for 2 weeks or less count? How bout parts cars that ran and were actually driven some? How bout street bikes? :D
They all count. They were yours, correct?

Around here cars rot out so if you get a used car (like I always do) it's just a matter of time until it's junk.

Not sure if I'm amazed at the number of cars OR the fact that you guys can RECALL and ITEMIZE all of them !!! If I started doing that, smoke would be wisping out of my ears in minutes as I delved into the far reaches of the void in my skull. At least one thing I've realized... I'm not the only nut who's had more than a few cars !
