Installed the transmission today for the 72 SSP I purchased in pieces a few months ago. Obviously, I installed the shift linkage, transmission rod to carburetor, and the transmission mount that is included with the crossmember. Now my question is: what are those three holes for at the very end of the tail shaft (on the bottom)? The previous owner had put three bolts in the holes because that is how he kept track of every fastener he removed. But I don't find anything in his pile of parts that should go there. The transmission does not seem to need any more support and I installed the driveshaft (was I supposed to grease or oil the yoke of the driveshaft before I slid it into the end of the tranny?) Anyway, I have been searching and searching the factory service manual and the web and I can't find an answer. Thank you.
