This pretty little Satellite is on BaT and caught my attention. The trunk sides both have a strange bracket on the quarter panel walls right behind the wheel housings. Neither my 66 Satellite or my 67 GTX have anything like them. Any idea why this car has them? Just curious.

how are they attached? they didnt spot weld those to the 1/4 did they?

Never saw them before.

SPD is 8-24-1965 last 6 of VIN 100794 from St Louis plant.
So is this some early thing that was abandoned?

Came on Convertibles... looked on my PC and it looks like a hard top. Maybe someone got a good deal on convertible Qtrs and put them on as the do have the bracket on the wheel house also.. AND there are bolted like they should be. IF not factory F-up...

No.
Maybe certain states requirements?? Just a WAG...... This one was headed to Nebraska.
I saw that and corrected my post.. I only zoomed in that area on my phone.. Then I saw no convertible well or pump looking on my PC… That said convertible bracing IS what they are.

Think they could have been NOS convertible quarters used to repair a hardtop???
Maybe but they went to the extent of putting the brace/mount on the outer wheel house too… Who knows what happened with how many times it may have changed hands…

They aren’t on your convertible Fran? If not that seems to take away from the theory they were convertible related.
It's not a theory my 64 Ragtop has them while my 64 hardtop did not. However I believe that support system ended in B-bodies in '65. Someone put them in there why who knows.

My 63 Fury Convertible has them too. Not attached to quarters. The brackets that are bolted to the tubs are adjustable in and out to put pressure against the quarters with a strip of tar paper between the two. I can't see any signs of there ever being a 'bonding' agent between the two pieces and definitely no bolts, studs or welding...
