Hey Guys,

What needs to be hooked up just to test the starter and see if the engine cranks? Does the coil, distributor etc. need to be or just the battery, starter relay and key switch? I have a 69 RR 383 and I hooked up new wiring harnesses in the engine and console area, I also did the MAD change. I don't have everything hooked up yet but wanted to see if it cranks over.

Thanks,
-Mark

You can jump the terminals on the relay with a screwdriver to turn the engine over.

That won't ruin anything? Would that be where the battery hooks up to the relay and the black starter wire on the relay?

Pull the small yellow wire off the starter relay. Jump that terminal to the big lug on the relay with a screwdriver or momentary jumper switch.

New engine?
You should prime the oil pump and have the distributor/oil pump drive gear and intermediate shaft installed.
I would use the starter relay to turn it over no you do not need the distributor.

Yes, new engine and I will prime the oil pump, I have been doing that each month for over a year now, my RR got stuck in paint jail, lol.

Don’t connect the battery unless you are sure you main alternator wire is connected or taped off so it won’t touch ground and melt everything.

Yes, the main alt wire is connected.

Thanks Guys! Tried this when I got home and it worked like a charm, it was nice to hear it turn over for the first time! No bad noises! lol
