There was nothing in the car when I got it. I'm sure my brother replaced them with something attached to an aftermarket 8-track (based on both my memory and the 7 extra holes along the bottom of the dash that had to be welded by Instrument-Specialties). No build sheet (if there was one, it turned into a mouse nest long ago - yes, I tried the Registry).

1. Since it's a 1970 Charger SE with the fader switch on the dash, is it expected that it came with rear speakers? I would think so, but I'm not the expert.

2. If so, what speakers were there - do they make repros (i did a quick search and didn't find much - lots of aftermarket / better speakers)?

3. Are there any special brackets I'd need?

Thanks
Ross

I have never had my rear speakers out of any of my 3 S.E.'s. I would assume they were just standard 6x9's.

I bought, back then from the Dodge dealership that I worked at, a fader pkg from the parts department. It only had one speaker in the pkg. So are you saying that your Charger came from the factory with a fader and speakers? I'm just asking because I don't know.

I can't find anything in the Dodge documentation for two rear speakers, only one.

R31 is for rear speaker. Not plural 'speakers'. My Broadcast Sheet shows R31, but not my fender tag. The only R code on my tag is the R21 radio option. I don't recall ever seeing R31 on a fender tag. Not everything goes on the fender tag.

Also, I cannot find anything for a factory fader. Maybe that was a dealer installed item.

I got my front and rear speakers here. Very good quality and sound. Electro-Tech Services Page

Yeah, that was a popular add-on we did routinely back then in the garage. I don't recall anything other than ONE rear speaker from the factory. We would install 2 6x9 Jensens on the rear shelf.

and chop up the dash for a Pioneer Super Tuner .......... I need to fix mine

Mine are both 2 rear speaker defogger cars. There is a mounting bracket that goes where the speaker is to go and the second speaker mounts in the bracket and the defogger blower motor mounts offset also to the same bracket. The best picture I have of it installed.

Let me know if you need pictures of the rear speaker.

Thanks for the detailed response. Again, there were no rear speakers when I got it, so I assumed it had 2 rear speakers. We all know what happens when we assume. When I say fader I'm talking about the conical shaped silver knob under the dash. The attached pic is the best I could find as the dash is still in the crate from being restored. Didn't a lot of Chargers have that fade control? Was it aftermarket? I might be a off base here, so feel free to straighten me out.
