Guys, just curious to know what was the stock air cleaner that came on my factory 400 , a single or duel "snorkel " unit. I assume all engines that year were blue so would the cleaners been black in color. Can I assume the orange cleaners were on only orange painted motors. Did autos and manuals all get same type and color. Thanks, getting time to find something for my current rebuild.

If it’s a hi-po application dadsbee’ s picture is correct. In 74 the inlets are more oval shaped.

Orange all the way for 4 bbl engines.

Awesome, thanks, so the short square inlets were for 73s and the long, more rounder inlets were for the 74s? I think either will work for me...now that I know what I m looking for, will see what prices eBay is offering....thanks...

From reading this thread, I assume the orange dual snorkel is correct for a 1973 Charger SE 400 HP engine? I was once told that because the vacuum outlet on the firewall has a blank plate on it, the air cleaner should be single snorkel and black. But that is incorrect, right??

Orange dual snorkel is correct.

Why did the factory delete the vacuum ports on the firewall? Since the firewall vacuum ports were deleted, why would they still use a double snorkel breather?

There are differences in 70/71/72 and 73.

The stampings on the snorkels are different.

73 is the only one IIRC that has diagonal lines on both snorkels.
They are also the cheapest and easiest to find.
No need to pay extra for an earlier part.

See the site listed above for details.
