Trying to decide the best course of action to fix this passenger side cowl damage.
The cowl and windshield channel appear to be free of rust, just dent below the A-pillar that was previously mudded in and painted...so my question is I bought an AMD replacement cowl, but I'm questioning whether I should replace the entire thing or have someone more talented with sheetmetal than myself repair the original?

What would be more affective cost and longevity wise?

If it's not rusty use a stud puller and pull the dent. If it's rusty pull the windshield, fender, and door. Drill the spot welds at the last few inches where it's bad. Thenslice it somewhere before the cowl vents. Splice in a piece. My 64 was rusty underneath. I cut ta similar section out of the top. Fabbed a new lower cowl piece. Then welded the top back in. It was pretty easy.

If channel is rust free, I'd repair it. Mine had a fairly good size dent. I used a stud gun, pulled dent and then skim coated the area. If you haven't yet, I'd pull lower chrome to inspect windshield channel better. That may dictate your repair.

Pull the lower windshield trim and A pillar piece also.
There probably will be more under it.
Windshield will be coming out also anyway if your working on the cowl.
Many of the B bodies crack at that area.
There is alot more going on there.
Looks like a aftermarket fender, things are just out of place.
Nothing that can't be fixed.

Im wondering if it's not a dent but where it was the lead seam and it was removed and filler applied.
I wondered the same, it has damage on the top of the fender near the antenna also, which made me think a dent..but it could be a result of the lead popping loose. The seam seems consistent with what I've seen with factory joints at the A -pillar.

Could be a prior repair in the area of the cowl and fender. Many insurance jobs use no primer and low quality paint, so it turns to surface rust after decades in the weather.
