Hi, I was told this was a good place for advice. Im not to smart, so I have little to give. Any way....
I have a 66 satellite, 4 speed car. Currently has a 360 but it's tired. I picked up a new motor, it's a 383. Bored .30 with a 440 cam. Ported and balanced. Also sports a set of 65 426 wedge heads. I will be using eledbrock intake and carb.
My question, I'm sure a 650 should be about the right size carb, but the intake? Square or spread bore? Single or dual plane? I'm not sure what the difference would be performance wise. I will be adding a Hurst shifter and I want it fast off the line, but something that will cruise also.
Also, I have no idea what gears are in the rear.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Mike

If doing mostly street I'd use a dual plane. I think a 750 would be a better fit but a 650 will do just might limit the rpms.

Welcome. You'll get lots of response to your post. My opinion...square-bore, dual-plane, 3:23 gears. What you have, is what you have.....and we need pictures.

Mike, glad to have you join the site....and remember everyone is welcome and has a certain point of view which equates as something to give and contribute. Good luck

As far as your questions I will defer to folks a lot sharper then me....I had a Holley 650 and a Holley 780 on my 383 and both worked very well.

Is this what you have been told or do you have casting numbers and been in contact with the builder. Not just an owner builder builder but an actual mopar engine builder?

Bought the motor from an estate sale. It came with limited paperwork but did have the info from the machine shop that did the build. I called them and they remembered the motor. Mostly because the previous owner of the motor, a regular customer of theirs had passed away, and the fact it was the 383 in hemi orange.
They said nothing of the heads, I got that from the casting numbers. I pulled the valve covers to try some new aluminum ones I had just traded for. Made a trade from an old racer AL Young. Raced a 70 challenger. Some of you may have heard of him. He was the one that said a 650 carb. Should be good. Sold him some parts that will be in his car In hotrod magazine in November.
