can you get a 275/60/15 in the rear of a stock 1967 belvedere???:elmer:

If you use some custom back-spaced wheels you can...barely. Oh, and you may still experience rubbing on hard cornering.

You would need an 8 inch wheel with 5 to 6 inches of backspacing. With that said, you may still have some rubbing at the front of the wheel well when the suspension cycles due to the diameter of the tire. That tire is 28" in diameter.

255/60X15 on a 7" Cragar SS with 4.125" backspacing is what I used on my `66 Belvy. It just clears the outer lip and has a good inch plus on the inside. I could have had some custom wheels built, but they would run more than doubled the price of an off-the-shelf wheel.

You also need to take into account engine performance and gearing with tire size changes. You are looking at 4 inches larger (diameter) and 5 inches wider than original. Thats a lot of extra weight you will be trying to turn...not to mention, stop. The inertial force that rotating assembly creates is more than most people think it is. Not saying don't due it...just realize one thing effects another.

with an offset...BUT......hard to change on the highway if flat

i was looking at at 15x7 wheel with 4.5 backspace with a 275/60

A 275-60-15 is right at 9" wide and a 7" wheel really isn't the ultimate width to you. You will end up running lower psi just to get the full thread foot print.....and even if you run 5 psi less, the center of the tire will still be standing up and will experience faster tread wear in the center. You will end up running somewhere around the high 20's psi to obtain a full tread foot print then you will have more sidewall flex than normal. Ask me how I know. I have a 66 Belvedere and they as the same wheel house as the 67 does. Optimum rim size is usually whatever the thread width is. I decided to throw on a set of 225-75-15's on the cop car 7" wheels and even those would run from time to time when I articulated the suspension due to their height.

not getting the answer I need....has anyone run this combo or close and will it fit???? anyone have pics??

A 275/60 on an 8" wheel with 4.5 backspacing is gonna rub.

A buddy loaned me a 215/60x15 (thats 60mm less width!) on an 8" Cragar 4.125 backspacing, for a fitment check. I could not fit my fingertips between the outer lip and the tire...and the outer wheel house steps in closer to the tire up inside the wheel well (feel around up in there and you will understand).

These are photos of my `66 wheel well...with 255/60s on 7" rims 4.125" backspacing.

Hopefully these will help.

View attachment 97964I just put 245/60-15's on 8 inch 4.5 backspacing prostars on my 66. Drivers side has about 1 inch clearance to the fender lip. Passenger has less than a half inch and will probably rub. I wish I had ordered 5.5 back spacing and they would be perfect.

I thought the replies up to this point were pretty well explained but I guess not. And yes, moving the spring in will help but the wheel houses on these cars is among the smallest built short of 'A' body cars. Also, not all cars are created equal. For example, I built a set of custom offset 8" rallye wheels for a 71 Cuda to install a set of 275-60's. Ironic? The E cars have much larger wheel houses and even with that I have to pay attention to tire clearance. Anyways, the right side was 3/4's inch smaller than the left side and the car had never been wrecked or had any type of body work done to it! I had to adjust the offset on the right side wheel before welding it up. If you want to raise the rear of the car and move the springs in, then you can probably 'make' the 275's work....btw, you can make anything fit if you want to get crazy enough.

i am pretty sure a 275 will fit just get the BS perfect, i know the years are different but if a 68 can fit 305 without rubbing or mods then i am pretty sure a 275 will fit the 66-67.

i remember readfing a guy with a 67 coronet on pro touring mopar with 295 rears and 275 fronts no mods.

On my 67 Belvedere, I have 255/60R15s and they rub slightly on the outside inner fender, not the lip but higher up the inner fender has a bump, the wheels are 15x7 with a 4 inch backspace. It rubs if I hammer the gas or the front end comes up a bit on the highway at high speeds. On my car a 15x8 wheel with 4.5 BS wouldn't fit.
