Where did you grow up?

Spent my teenage years, 68-73, in Cincinnati, OH. The muscle car, street machine, drag race/street race scene years were the best there. Been here in the Portland, OR area for fifty years.

Told my friends back in OH when we moved that I would be back. Didn't take long living in OR to realize I was never going back to OH! Fifty years ago, this state was awesome. Now, not so much. Housing, cost of living, taxes, traffic, homeless, gangs, invaders-foreign and domestic, and the list goes on. It's almost as bad as LA now. Southern CA just has better weather.

Grow up?

Umm......

That said...I spent my formative years in N. Virginia (and got the hell OUT as soon as I could). Dad was USN(Ret), turned CPA, turned government work, turned private sector, and actually enjoyed (we never understood it) life around the beltway...until one good ice storm. He looked at mom, said "I'm retired, it's too goddamned cold here...we're moving to Florida." Listed the house for sale, it was sold 9 hours later (!), and they left. Moved into a friend's house in FL while they built their own, where mom still lives.

I, however, was away in college when all this happened.

They were nice enough, though, to tell me before I had a chance to knock on someone else's door when I went "home" for break....they'd already sold the house, packed, and moved...but eventually they remembered to call and tell me.

Born, raised, and educated in The Bronx. Joined Navy in '66, got out in'70 and lived in Bayside Queens for 5 years, then Smithtown LI for 3 years, New Milford Ct for 10 years and now Scottsdale Az for the last 38 years. I always knew I was never going back to the Bronx when I left there.
