I recently changed over to an electronic VR without success. I used this diagram

Then came across this diagram that shows the - alt field going to ground.

Any body have the correct advice?

Thanks,
Rodger

Battery charged I'm getting 12.7 volts ign off. when I start the car the voltage drops to 12.3
I'm getting 11 volts testing from neg batt terminal to neg batt cable (disconnected) is that normal or is there a draw problem somewhere?

My guess would be the bottom one is for cars that weren't originally equipped with a dual field alternator.

Probably. Single field only has two connections on the back. Dual field has three (including the big one)

I think a little more info is needed to be able to help...

-How many connections on the alternator?
-Did you rewire your harness per the top diagram, or just connect new VR as old one was connected?
-A pic of the situation would probably be helpful showing which VR you have

It sounds to me like the VR is simply not working because it might be wired partially for pre 70 setup and partially for post 70 setup.
