There is alot of hard to digest information regarding Mopar ECU's, ballast resistors, and recommended ignition coils. I want to read which combination of ECU - Ballast - Coil you chose. Thanks!

MSD Blaster 2 with the Rev-N-nator ECU. Works very well, and looks stock.

Word of Warning - only 'cause this is kinda relevant

I just bought a brand new MSD Blaster 2 coil this week and installed it on my '57.

Car no start.

WTF ?

I double check everything (like there's much to check) and still no love.

I put the old coil back on and she fires right up.

Next I ohm out the MSD coil and lo and behold, no continuity.

So the lesson here kids is spend thirty seconds and put a VOM to your new coil before you go to the hassle out swapping out the old one.

Do you use a ballast? If so, which one?

Stock looking single resistor wire in the porcelain block - I think it's 1.4 ohms (car is not handy enough to be sure.

I was unsure of the MSD Blaster 2 being it was designed initially for the MSD capacitive discharge ignition systems but, as per your recommendations, I have chosen to go with the MSD Blaster 2 epoxy filled coil (part #8222) and the recommended .8 ohm ballast resistor (part #8214). I too have the fabulous Rev-N-Nator ecu. Thanks to all!!!!

Running Summit Racing electronic kit. (Ballast, box, and distributor). Similar to M.P. setup. Accel coil (yellow). No complaints.

I have MSD blaster2 coil and msd 6al box bypassed ballast works great

FBO ECU, "tuned/tunable" distributor w/max timing lock disc and vac advance. Petronix Flamethrower coil. Rev limiter works fine. With this system, I started using vacuum advance for the first time.
I "discovered" the Petronix 3 just a few days ago, and I would REALLY like to compare that to what I have.

Myself I am using the orange MP ECU I bought in 1999 and I also use an Accel super coil I have had since 1992. I did use a .75 ohm ballast but I took the ballast out this winter and the car has been running great with NO ballast in it. And the coil never gets hot. The reason I did it was I saw an article where they said they did not use a ballast in the Mopar 4 pin ECU box and the article said theirs ran good and never hurt the coil. Well I carry a spare ballast and coil so I thought I would try it as of course it gives a hotter spark with more reserve voltage and it has not over heated the coil. Its been running great since last October when I did this. I figured since the ballast was important on the old point ign to keep the current to a limit and not burn the points right up that since these guys in the mag article took out the ballast I would try it. I would not try it on the older 5 pin ECU's but its worked fine on my 4 pin ECU. I am also using a Mallory race electronic dist with no vacum advance on it. Also I shift my car at 6200 and trap at 6400 and it never misses a beat. Ron
