White letters?

What is the current opinion on white letters on tires? For the last 15 years or so, if the tires i wanted happened to come with white letters, i automatically put them on the inside, with the exception being slicks/drag radials, mainly for video purposes.
Now i am seeing a resurgience in white letters on street cars. And of course, if they are proper on our old muscle cars, definately white letters out.
I have currently got a set of coopers on order for my white diesel pickup, that come with outline white letters. Instinct tells me to put the white in. Less maintenance required.
What say you? Do you have your white letters in or out?

With BF Goodrich's it just seems natural to run the letters out, I guess.
I will be replacing these over the winter (very low miles but a decade of time on 'em) and
I've been mulling over going blackwall next time, though.

I usually run them out but I keep them clean. Nothing looks worse than a set of yellow or brown *** white letters on a muscle car at a show because they didn't clean them. To me it almost ruins the car in a way. I vote out.

That's a pretty car with chrome wheels. It needs white letters. I tried mine without. Naw!

BFG's are the worst for that. My 255-60's brown out. It's a defect in the manufacturing. BFG knows about it.

They are starting to piss me off on it too. They know about it and the last 3 sets won't go bright white in certain sizes. Seems like anything 255/60 or 255/70 and up are worse than the smaller sizes I've ordered. My last two sets of 215/70's are perfect where the larger rears suck and come brown and won't clean up at all. It's making me not want to buy another set from them until they know its fixed.

I always wondered if sanding them with 1000 grit or something would take the brown scum layer off the letter. I believe the white is a pretty thick area of rubber and not just coated. Atleast the white walls are a thick piece of white rubber added to the black tire sidewall. If this set does brown out, I will have to try something and see if there is brighter white rubber under the top layer.

Agreed. My 215/70-15's on the front get cleaned once a year. The 255/60-15's on the rear get scrubbed every time I take it out. Mine are a few years old and if they pro rate them I get nothing. I like the tread and the letters. It will be hard to switch.

My car had BFG whites when I bought it. They were 8 yrs. old @ did not yellow. Bought new wheels this April , went white letters in.

Not a fan of white letters personally. They look OK on 1968 and later cars but I cringe when I see them on cars from the early or mid 60's and throw up a little in my mouth when I see them on a 50's car. It is just a matter of opinion and personal taste, doesn't mean a thing what anybody thinks as long as the owner is digging the look.
