I'm trying to figure out what torque converter to use. If anyone knows a good vendor who can point me in the right direction that would be great. I have a 73 roadrunner 440 at I believe 10.47:1 compression ratio, Edelbrock E street EFI, Comp 284H cam .484-int .484-ex l08 lobe separation, My rear has a 3.23 sure grip for now though. My 727 has a Transgo TF2 shift kit in it and was rebuilt. I would hope to have a little flexibility to maybe change gears eventually if I don't like these though I probably won't be doing drags or anything much if ever. The torque converter is the last thing I need to get ordered so I can finish putting my drivetrain together. Edit. Forgot to mention I have 1.6 ratio rockers so a little extra lift . Thanks for any suggestions.

I'm hearing that John is snowed under with work lately so he might not be too available for taking phone calls. Think he's still pretty much a one man band...

I did an engine for a guy some years back that was similar except for modified stock 906 heads and the cam was an MP cam. I advanced the cam 4* and he said the car did great off the line with a 3.55 and 4 speed. Based on what you said here my first thought is nothing less than 2500 stall and nothing more than 3000.

            Dynamic or ptc
both can do a custom convertor that's tight for going down the highway but flashes near 4000. Our dynamic 4200 slips less at cruising speeds then the oem 2200 stall we had. But when you floor it leaps out of the hole like a loose 4200. Best of both worlds.
If you are on a budget...Hughes convertors are ok for a budget build. You get what you pay for. We have a race 5500 turbo action, but I haven't ran anything for the street to advise.

PTC is who I use but get ready for a long wait. I ordered a custom 9.5" converter earlier this year and it took just over 4 months to get it. They are really busy!

I have the 75cc edelbrock e street heads thats what got my compression ratio up. I also forgot to add I have 1.6 ratio rockers so a little more lift.

I'd buy off the shelf for now and maybe do something different later my car will be stored in winter if it takes that long.

ATI is what I'm using in both cars. I've had nothing but good dealings with them and their converters work well. All new components. No used crap. ruffcut

Dynamic has closed years ago. Lupo retired.
Another trans company has the same name, but not the same deal.

I've had good service from Turbo Action and Coan. Both have been helpful on the phone, especially Turbo Action.

My 1st aftermarket convertor was B&M 10" Street/Strip, worked good in '65 Coronet 426W, in '75 then in '77 sent it in for upgrade, big improvement. Followed DC rec's went to 3800 Turbo Action 8 3/4" was a little better .06-.10, Turbo Action, worked well but I broke a couple. Used a Cope 8 3/4" worked very well, slightly better than Turbo Action.
In 2013 my Satellite had a 10" Turbo Action tight model for street & strip from about 2005. It worked really well, thought I broke it at the track. Ordered a Frank Lupo Dynamic 9 1/2" next day. Turned out valve train failed not convertor. Convertor works really great.
Companies change all the time, B&M is not what it was in the '70's, not sure if Dynamic is the same as a few years ago.
ATI still has a good rep along with PTC.

Just bought a 9 1/2" from them about 8 months ago. One of his guys even met me at a car show to deliver it. Great service all the way around.

Call Milt at Precision of New Hampton. They use the best parts and their converters work. They can deliver quickly too.

PTC will build you a great converter. Also Bubba at Perfect Converter.
