Why the 33" power steering pressure hose?

Couple questions on this issue. High pressure line leaks, so looking to replace it. Why is the replacement line so long for the 12"s from the pump to steering box? Is this Federal power steering pump correct for a 1966 Satellite? First pic is how the pressure line was connected, up over the shock attachment. Second pic is what I've seen posted here on FBBO for line position and third pic shows return line being pushed into pump pulley by the pressure line pump 90 connector. Fourth pic is Mopar parts manual which shows a 90° connection on return line at the pump. Can't find this anywhere in aftermarket world, of it is even a thing this car had.
Is there a better hose option? Have one custom made? Still have to wonder why aftermarket is 33"s long, is there a hydraulic reason?

I'd like to know how that actually works.

You have a TRW pump, yes it looks original. They had the long lines from the factory. We don't know why, but it is so.

The engine and pump moves and the box does not so length is good.

That return line routing is horrible. Should curve to the rear not the front, way to close to the belt.

I think the first pictures hose arrangement is similar to the factory arrangement.

I've never heard nor seen the 90 degree on the return line at the pump reservoir

Here is a picture of how mine is routed. I replaced the original hoses myself, so I believe this is the factory routing.

The second picture looks like my 67 GTX is outed - big loop under the battery tray. I’ve often wondered why so long myself or if it was an incorrect replacement. Hadn’t thought about routing the loop to the rear.

I used a 69 hose and changed the fitting on the steering gear box. Much shorter and better routing.

Perhaps. There is harmonic resonance from rotating machinery.

Wish I could see what the steering box connection looks like. The way the hose sweeps down the inner fender to the box makes me think that connector is not a 90° bend.
