All, I've been sorting through the steel wheels my brother had lying around between the multiple cars he had (likely rims from the junkyard back in the day).
t
I planned to run the 1970 SE Wheel covers (I bought a very nice set) on 14" steel wheels. Nothing flashy, just trying to return the car to factory original condition (not concurs) without the benefit of a build sheet (so I don't know exactly what it had). I found 2 14x5 and 2 14x5.5 in his collection that I planned to run in the front and back, respectively; however, as I'm cleaning them up with Evaporust and wire brush, I wonder how much pitting is too much (photos). Should I throw in the towel on that one and look for others? Are they plentiful with many people going to 15" and disc brakes?

While looking for replacements, I found a set of "magnum" rims (14"x6") nearby for a good price ($250 total so likely repros). If they are real and not trash, I'm thinking of picking those up and still running my SE wheel covers on them (is that sacrilege?) I'll check to see if they would fit before buying them. If I change my mind later, I can run the Magnums like everyone else :)

Thoughts?

Without some machining on the lip I suspect these would leak.
Maybe no initially but after time probably yes.

You could try and jack up the car, mount one on the back, start and put the car in drive and then hit it with a flap disc while it spins. Might work.

Otherwise look for better wheels.
I sold a nice set of 4 around 5 years ago with decent tires for around $250.

Those are garbage. I would not trust them to hold the bead at spec pressure.

I'm not sure if a wheel cover will fit on a magnum wheel?
I doubt many people have tried it.

Put an ad in the wanted to buy section. There's not much demand if any for 14" wheels. Hell, someone might pay you to take them off their hands.
