Does anyone have tips on installing the windshield and rear window stainless steel trim without damaging or denting it?

Check for leaks first then make sure all your clips are straight and the same height lay your trim out to see how and what order it goes on. Sometimes the trim will click on by just pressure and some time hit it with your palm always be sure it is between the body and clip.You can mark the location of the clips on the body with a small piece of tape make sure the long pieces are in the right position because once it is down on a few clips you won't be able to move it.
 
If you need to hit it hard enough to dent or distort it, something isn’t right.

Should snap in with light to moderate pressure.
 
Lay a paint stir stick over the trim to spread the force...
