Besse Cooper was 116 years old.

Some facts about her life:

She was born in 1896, Grover Cleveland was President.
The Duryea brothers built their first car in the US. The first motion picture was made that year. The first Olympics were held in Athens. The Spanish American War was still two years away. The airplane hadn't been invented yet. New York didn't have a subway yet. Electric lights, indoor plumbing, typewriters, and hospitals were rare in those days. Civil War veterans, horses, and dirt roads were common.

When Lindbergh flew across the Atlantic Besse was 31. When World War II started she was 45. When man landed on the moon she was 72. When 9/11 happened she was 105.
