So I sent my Steering Gearbox, Pittman Arm, Idler Arm, High Pressure Hose and Pump to Steer and Gear. They specified to send the pump separately and pack it well as it's heavy. All seemed to go well, I paid last week and they shipped back Monday - received a box on Wednesday. I received the Gearbox, Arms and High pressure hose in that box, but no 2nd box or pump. I only received 1 tracking number earlier as well. I emailed them right away Wednesday (1:11PM) to let them know the box was banged up, the high pressure hose was sticking out the side at the top and scratched up (slight ding), the gearbox was wet and scratched from the Idler Arm floating around in the box. I also asked for the Tracking # for the Pump. No response Wednesday afternoon or Thursday morning, so I called today at 1:30pm.

After 5-10 mins on hold to figure out where the pump is, she let me know it was delivered last night and would send me the picture confirmation. She continued to read the address - it was NC (not me - I'm in SC). She said she'd have to go figure out what happened. I mentioned that I hope it's packed better than the other items and she said "yeah, I saw that" and mentioned they pack them their best and wanted to know if the box was wet - as "they suck out the fluid with a sucker".

Anyway she calls back about 30 minutes later to let me know they were shipping out another to me today. I stopped her and said I want the original back. At first she said that could take a week or two, which I said I'm ok with as I want the original one. Then she let me know that they have a pickup # and 3 times for pickup but they're hoping someone is there to provide the package because they don't know who that address belongs to - how the guy packing/shipping last Friday got that address! They have no idea if they'll get it back! To top it off, I just got an email with the pickup tracking number with "here is hoping for the best on your pump being returned".

To say I'm not happy is an understatement. I get that **** happens, but no apologies for any of the issues. Customer Service is completely dead. BTW, why wouldn't they ship the high pressure hose back in the pump box - I guess in this case that would be bad.

Done ranting for now - I guess I'll go back to "hoping" that it wasn't stolen, resold, etc by whoever it was delivered to. Feel like contesting the charge on my card, but I'll wait to see if it get's picked up. As the delivery picture she has shows 2 boxes being dropped off by UPS, they're no guarantee the right one will be picked up.

Yeah, I talked my neighbor into shipping his box from Nevada to Ohio Steer&Gear saying they had a good rep.
His was a 67 Ford F250. Got it back and it was leaking again in a few months.
Needless to say my neighbor was not happy with me or them. Never again..

I've had the steering gear in my Charger for over 20 years. Works perfectly.
Same for my Plymouth with about 5 years on it now.
Dissappointing to hear a good company seems to a have lost it's dedication.
But everyone makes mistakes and they can't necessarily control the shipping company.

Did ya buy the “ insurance “ for the shipment

I agree everyone makes mistakes; however, S&G put the address on the box so they can't blame the shipping company. I guess I was expecting an apology or admission that they screwed up the packing on the first box and let everything get banged up and sent the 2nd box to who knows where.

They were shipping to me, so that would be on them. However the shipping company did exactly what they were told to do. How do you claim lost when you shipped it wrong?

True, if they ship this stuff everyday you'd think they would know how to pack it properly.
Very hard to find good people who take pride in their work these days.

Fyi

Anytime I ship ……
Anything of value , you you got 700-1000
Of value to you , insure the shipment !!!

It protects you against MONGO the mover .

Just my 2 cents ….

You’ll figure it out sooner or later!

Again, THEY SHIPPED TO ME!!! I doubt they can claim insurance if UPS delivered it EXACTLY where they told them to.

I always insure my shipments.

Thanks

Years ago they destroyed my unobtanium rubber seal when they took it apart. No reason for that. Never made good on it because we could not find another one.

I've used Steer N Gear since the 1990s and always happy until my last experience. I'll say the last experience was "bittersweet" at best. I don't think I got a stock rebuild (even had to correct them three times on the phone that I didn't want firm). I know I didn't get my original box back, and it seems they are lackadaisical about the day to day business.

Steering box removal. It's never easy for me.

That stinks - at least they have another pump they can ship if they can't get mine back. I'm just really trying to keep as many original parts of my late brother's car as I can.

Update: after emailing them and asking them to chase it (google the address, find a contact, call them) they have made contact and have verbal confirmation that the pump will be handed back to UPS. I hope it holds and the pump is back in my possession in a week or 2.

Ain't that true. I ordered new sill plates and they arrived damaged. It seems where they were stacked together something fell and damaged the edge. I call the place and give them pics and the guy says he will personally inspect the next set that goes out.
New parts arrive with damage in the exact same spots since they were in the same stack, the damage wasn't as deep but it showed what a personal inspection is worth. Zero.

That’s disappointing to hear. I ordered a PS gearbox from them last year and it arrived fine and so far is functioning well (not many miles on it yet). I felt I got a good value for the money. I hope they can make things right for you.

I sent a Saginaw pump last year for a rebuild and when it returned my satin black paint job was rattle caned with some gloss black. I disassembled and repainted the pump. All the internal parts appeared to be used (although they claimed it was in a different casting). It cost more than the new pump I replaced it with?

I would mention to them about you on this site and will be posting about it. Then I would post this on e bodies only. That BS and hope you get yours back.

Previous owner of my AAR had the T/A steering box rebuilt there, not sure how long ago, car was in pieces when I got it, assembled it cranked the motor over and it was leaking from both seals, not a drip a steady flow, bought a Borgeson and put the T/A box and pitman on the shelf with my other high dollar stuff. Talked to the past owner and he stated he could send it back but I didn't want to mess around with it, glad I didn't
