I watch a lot of YouTube videos and have noticed that they have really ramped up the appearance of ads.
It used to be that you'd have an ad at the beginning of a video but now they also have them interrupting the video by popping in every few minutes, then another ad after the video is done.
Come on, man !
You can SKIP many of the ads after they have ran 10-15 seconds.
I learned years ago that when watching a video, you can press the letter J to rewind the recording 10 seconds, press K to pause or resume play and L to fast forward 10 seconds.
I also found that you can hit the REFRESH icon to skip through some ads entirely, this jumps past the ads and onto the video play.
I rarely watch videos on the phone because few things ruin a video quite like a screen smaller than the palm of my hand. These tips probably won't help those of you that don't use a computer for watching videos.

I have not seen an ad on youtube in like 8 years.... you are using firefox with the ublock origin extension installed? It pretty much blocks ads everywhere online....

Chrome wont allow ublock origin due to them making money off those ads.. you can install Ublock origin lite in chrome though.. it works "Ok".. Edge still allows ublock origin though.

That started a year or two ago for some.
Then came the ads you can't skip.
Some "creators" are also now pitching the ads themselves, like old TV shows used to.
Fortunately in that circumstance, most of them have a banner with the product website at the bottom for the length of the "spot", so you can judge pretty easily when to stop skipping forward.

I've found that when you link a vid, say to FBBO, it doesn't have the ads (or at least most of them including the one closest to the beginning) when the linked vid is viewed on FBBO.

you don't have to skip them... with a adblock you never even see them...

Several of the ones I follow now do their own adds for someone sponsoring the video. Kind of annoying but I just FF through them. But there are a lot more adds in the last year.

Son-of-a-blocking bastard.

I watch a lot of YT videos too, but at least the ones on my computer, I just hit F5 to refresh on the longer ones, and after 1 or 2 refreshes, I'll get a quick 5-second ad that I don't mind waiting for. My complaint is with YT ads on the family TV, we watch most of our YT content on that, not on a computer. It's true that I've noticed ads getting longer, unskippable ads increasing in length, some to over a minute long...but often you get the option to skip when it boils down to 15 seconds...then you get another ad that only lasts 5 seconds until it can be skipped. It only saves 10+ seconds but hey, it's better than waiting a whole minute plus.

Another issue I've experienced...if you're wanting to watch a YT video with an ad, or have begun watching it and a mid-video ad appears--if you press "Skip" or "Back", YT forgets the damn video you were watching and finding it again becomes nearly impossible. Explain THAT algorithm to me?

I'd love to be able to adblock on the TV.
