a friend of the family has offered me this 68 GTX. I went to look at it today. Its rough.

sheel metal needed..

both full rear quaters
outer wheel wells
panel below rear glass
front left fender ( just dented)
floor one bad spot passenger front foot well
dont know about rear frame rails

Oh the fender tag is rusted so Icant even say for sure the otions on car but guessing

440 / auto
manual brakes
no ac
P/S

Trim..

Hood inserts missing
rear wheel arches gone
trunk panel trim missing
head liner is perfect ( strange )
still has both front buckets and consol
rear seat missing, door panel are there but missing hardware.
glass is good.

drive line
rear still in car, 8 3/4
have the 727 tranny and related hardware
have heads , P/S pump and related stuff
car is on new tires and centerlines ( 15s)

I do body work ( as a hobby ) and weld for a living so a quick estimtate is about 2500 in sheet metal and another 2500 to make the body straight. ( not counting paint , I paint too )

2000 in the interior
700 into tranny
5000 to do a mild 440.

so I think I cant make a nice drive for about $20,000 out of it.

BUT for the same price I can stuff a 4 link under it and fatties

OR just walk away..

come on you guys, what would it be worth as a "driver" ????

Hmmmmm. Not many '68s. Here's a thought. If you did a top notch resto either way, which way do you think you could get 30k out of? IMO prostreet is down right kick ***, but how much would you "really" drive it?

Forgot the 3rd option. You didn't say exactly how much you could get it for, but there is a boat load of nice parts there. Bet you get some pms asking to buy it.

The cost of the car is so low its not even a concern.

I have too many cars is the problem and Im just finishing up a 3 year project so Im a little burnt ( need a break for a year) I would only do this with a MILD 440 , a stock 440 /375 with mabe a set of headers and modern cam I already have a "semi pro street" car so I dont need another but they are eiser to do then a resto.

Restore, enough have already been butchered to drag and pro street status.

well, if you trash it or part it out, i would be interested in the grille...pm me!!!

RESTORE!!!!Or PRO-STREET!!!!!!!I,m likin the pro street!!!!!You have to remember that they made less than 18,000 in 68...
Petty Blue 67 GTX

Id restore as Driver- but you could allways save as investment...just a thought

If you trash it we,re gonna kick yer a&&. j/k but too rare to trash

Typical rot/rust......Sounds like you have the skills to bring back.....It's a GTX....Restore it!!

Get it, do some suspension updates, mild engine mods, restore the interior, paint it, enjoy the hell out of it. Store it for awhile if ya got to, then when your ready, let the sparks and cussing begin!!!!

I vote resto-mod. Traditional look with some modern upgrades (suspension/brakes) just to make you want to drive it. Furthermore, if you truly plan on building a mild mill, you can piece one together for less than 3k, but all bets are off if thoughts of a stroker enter your skull. As they invariably do.

I'd buy it, restore it to driver specs throw some 10" slicks on the back or mini tub it, buy a 512 or 528" stroker kit off 440source.com make it look pretty stock under the hood and call it a sleeper. :D

I'll second that!

Don't pro street it. Restore it or do a resto mod. My vote would be to restore, but that can get costly when you start tracking down all the right parts. However, with a resto mod you can take some liberties. Custom door panels, dash, seats, etc..

There are people here that started with way less and made good.

Now go do the right thing.

since the fender tag is trashed besides the k memebr is there any way to tell a hemi car vs a 440 car?

the motor??? sorry, couldn't resist...:usa2:

Don't pro-street it!!! you could fit 10" tires under there without choppin' it up!! if you actually want to drive her, stroke a 440, make her nice and tight on the suspension to handle the xtra power, and have a blast with it!!!

exactly what i was thinking.

Drive it like you stole it!!!

if you couldn't tell, i'm partial to 68 GTXs... mine's built the same way. 440 (obviously!), auto, no a/c, p/s.

oh and btw...i may have a 68 GTX rear tail panel w/the light buckets if you're interested...

if i still have it, i would rather sell it to you so you can get another 68 GTX back on the road, complete; rather than it collecting dust (waiting for my next 68 GTX :eusa_boohoo: )
