Well, it was bound to happen. Just when we all thought the authorities were down on our 'noise makers', here's one state, Maryland which has introduced legislation designed to come up with a solution to vehicles that don't make enough noise. I'm sure very few on this board can claim such behavior. Just another reason to support our hobby.

Really, this is good...especially the "Maryland Quiet Vehicles and Pedestrian Safety Task Force" !!!!!

Subject: Vehicle Noise
Bill: SB 12
Description: Requires the Maryland Quiet Vehicles and Pedestrian Safety Task Force to report by June 30, 2013, on findings and recommendations regarding the minimum sound level and sound characteristics to be required for all new vehicles sold and registered in the State; Task Force is attempting to come up with solutions to the issue of quiet/silent hybrid and electric vehicles, which pose a danger to pedestrians at intersections.Intro Date: 1/14/11

Who wants to give O'Malley a call and suggest 'cow catchers' on the front of every hybrid and electrical vehicle ? Or, how about the "Pedestrians Looking Left, Right, then Left Again" Task Force, or ?....well, you get the idea.

Politicians have nothing better to do but make our live more difficult with stupid rules and regulations that make no sense. They will be the undoing of this country (they are just about there!)

They want noise??? How about an un capped race HEMI making the rounds through the neighborhood?

There is some truth in this too-quiet argument! The US Army's M1 tank is very quiet. I was out in the field one day taking a dump, dark at night, went out a few hundred meters past our TOC, thought I was alone...sitting there under the stars letting a good one go, and, a ******* M1 tank was creeping up behind me, I didn't hear the ******! I smiled at his black-out drive lights (which are pretty bright and easily discernible to the trained and experienced eye, especially at night), he just sat there pausing, likely the crew was having a laugh "Look at that *** hole" probably was some of the 'talk and chatter' the crew was having amongst themselves. I just gave them the finger and laughed, then turned around and wiped my *** right in front of them, they turned and left -- finally! Yeah, sort of crude, but, anyone in the Army would appreciate this!

Will be the undoing of this country? That's been happening for a good while now!! And I run straight pipes on 2 of my 3 running vehicles :D My wife won't let me straight pipe her car lol.

Hey I could record my mopar exhaust sound on a CD, then sell them to Hybrid car buyers. Then they could crank up the stereo while driving around. Problem solved...lol

either that or i could paint my car camo and follow them around everywhere they go.....super sneaky. hahahaaha

My 2014 Jeep SRT did not come with a CD player. I did not realize it was an option and looked for a few minutes for it upon delivery. I called the salesman and he laughed at me because I wanted a CD player like I was asking for an 8 track player.

I actually agree with Maryland on this. I remember the first time I heard(or not) a hybrid vehicle. My first thought was that this could be dangerous to pedestrians and even other vehicles just because you don't hear them.

When I first started riding motorcycles, I found out pretty fast that a quiet bike was dangerous. I also use my straights as a horn too for the 'sleepers' (electronic devices) at the light. People will throw up a finger in a heart beat if you get on the horn but will just wake up and go at the sound of a loud engine.

I worked in the jeep assembly plant for 32 years, the first 25 in the old plant. We had fork trucks that ran on propane. In 2001 production was moved to new plant.in the new shop they only used electric tow motors that made no noise. Several times I stepped into isle and didn't see or HEAR them coming.almost got run over.yes you should look, but after 25 yrs. of hearing them it's not something you think about when performing a task.

Several times I have almost been hit by Priuses when trying to cross the street in the quiet residential CA neighborhood where my brother lives!

There is a 100% legitimate reason for this legislation, gang...It is to help BLIND people detect traffic and where it is in relation to their position. An electric car is noiseless. And no noise for a blind person is bad news.

Some legislation actually MAKES sense.

Agreed that they can arrive unexpected due to the quiet operation. That said, task forces are bullshit just like committees.

Don't got to worry about my stuff being to quite. I love open headers and cherry bombs (new old stock ones) they sound better yes I know it sounds funny but trust me there great sounding
Gentle men start your engine s a prius neer you needs help
