If you could go back to 1969 and order a new car, what would you order ? I still own mine by the way.

69 Charger 500, 440, 4 speed, Dana 60 4.10, super track pack, console and trailer hitch (to tow my hemi dart racecar).

I would order a Charger R/T/SE Hemi, 4 speed, Super Trac Pac, power everything, AM/FM, rear speaker, either Bright Red, B5 Blue or Turquoise, with White leather interior, stripe delete. no wheel covers as it would immediately get aftermarket wheels.

As long as we are dreaming, before it was put into service I would have the engine disassembled, blueprinted, balanced, heads cleaned up, compression bumped up (since good pump gas was available) and a bigger cam installed. Distributor recurved, no headers, I hate headers.

I might order a Daytona a friend of mine owns (it's only a rumor lol) a Petty Blue Hemi 4 speed Daytona, OR my now ex M code car

ooh i just remembered i could have a copper gtx with black stripes dana 60 4 speed with a hemi

69 Charger R/T with either a 440 6 pak or a hemi, 4 speed with a dana and a 410 gear from Mr Norms in Chicago., Like to drive my cars and the hemi was not a good full time driver. Hell, just order one of each, Then I would hold on to them this time instead of selling the two cars when I get drafted again. Life was so much easier then.

There was no 440 6 pack available in a 69 Charger.

The hemi is just fine as a daily driver. Even my 66 Hemi Coronet that has a larger cam, head work, and bumped compression idles around like a 318. But when you romp on it, it violently lifts, hooks, and throws you back in the seat without hesitation. It is unbelievable the difference in the car with some throttle.

it would have to be either a 69 daytona with a hemi 4 spd. blk on blk with a red stripe. or a 69 superbee with a 440 for spd. black on white int. with bucket seats with a red stripe.

My 68 R/T was not a good daily driver. It was a good driver to have some fun with but not to drive every day and be the only car to drive, Winters get pretty terrible here as well and a good daily driver it was not. It may be a great daily driver in AZ but not the Chicago area. My 440 was fine year round back in the day.

A lot of Charger guys on here! I'd have to say that I would order a B5/B5 69 Hemi Super Bee. I love the Ramcharger hood! I'd want a coupe with buckets and console 4spd.

I would indeed Ray:yes:

And lemon twist, you couldn't get a 69 Bee with a 440 4V. You would "have" to take a Six Pack:grin:

(sacrifices have to be made huh?) :rolling:

Well, the first 30 years of my life I lived in Galena and Savanna Illinois, so I know a little about winter driving.

I assume you are saying that your 68 R/T was a Hemi? Why was it less desirable a driver than your 440 car? Did the Hemi have a lower rear end ratio that made it slip and slide on the winter streets?

It is a known fact that the street Hemi did not wake up until it had some tweaking, primarily the distributor curve. There were many 440s that would run along side of Hemis both being as factory delivered. The factory Hemis were quite mannerly until you get into them.

The Charger was so sucessful when new because it captured the hearts of many different types of buyers.
The car is basically a cross over or mix of the luxury type sporty cars and performance cars of the day such as the Riviara, Grand Prix, and Thunderbird. Except that the Charger had the added benifit of two really great performance engines. The 440 or Hemi and the standard suspension blended with the standard equipment and beautiful body lines made it very popular with several buying camps. In 69 they added the SE package that further enhanced the luxury aspect with the leather seats.

It was said that the factory never offered any hood options on the 68-70 Chargers because the lines of the car held up just as they were on the standard car.

Now if you are the kind of guy that is only interested in the all out performance and performance look, then my choice would also Bee a 69 Six pack Bee. I looked at this exercise as what would be in 1969 and it being my only car to drive as regular transportation. In that case I would want the Charger in my first post for that blend of luxury and performance. If A/C would have been available with a Hemi I would have added that to the order form too.
