Just a 383 on steroids! I have a few small things to do yet like oil pan, oil pump, etc. Next the trim gets stripped off the car and its off for paint.

Get rid of that flex fan unless you eventually want to be buying a new radiator and hoses.

It will have to do for now, I have run flex fans before and this one is by far the strongest I have ever seen.
 
Nice lookin! I've run those kind of flex fans before too and never had any problems but never ran them at high rpm. Check it for cracks where the blades attach to the frame. What's in that beast? I'm planning on building a 400 using a stock forged 383 crank, 440 length rods and '0' deck pistons and building it to take 7500 rpm using eddy heads.

I can remember running a fiberglass flex fan in the late 60's and early 70's. We use to touch up the edges with finger nail polish. The bottom end is pretty much stock for a 10.0 to 1 67', the deck heigth measures .023 and I am using a set or 915 heads (that were trued up with a .010 cut) with 2.08 and 1.74 valves. Purple cam and lifters, Holley Street Dominator intake with a 750 Carter, headers and Pertronix ignition and coil. Max RPM is 5900...just a fun street car. 3.23.1 sure grip rear end...
 
Pistons have valve reliefs I assume? You using a composition head gasket? If so, take it out and use a factory style steel shim at .020. You'll have better quench and a tad more compression but it'll work! I'm going to shoot for no more than .030 quench on my next engine....
 
No they don't but the lift is under 500 so they should be fine with a composite head gasket. Pistons are factory dished and everything looks very acceptable. I am sure I could get away with a shim type head gasket and be ok.
 
The 383 I was running many moons ago had 915's, a comp gasket and zero deck pistons. With a .528" cam I had to cut one valve relief for the intake and it wasn't too deep - maybe .050" or so. That thing ran 12.65 in my 68 RR with 4.88's and 8" slicks. I love the 383's :hello2:

We have a 400 in my sons Dart with a stock stroke 383 crank. He has Eddy RPM heads and uses the MP .557 cam. Has run 11.40's @ 117 in his 3550 lb Dart. Its not a bad combo. Ron

great color choice for the engine - whats the hp output?
 
Based on the Comp cams site and honest info it tells me it should put out about 450+. That sounds high to me and I don't know just how exact the info is.
