What would happen if you mount the top of the water pump at the bottom?I checked the 4 mounting holes you can mount it in any positon.Would it cause you to run hot.The stock pump has top stamped on it? after market doesn't but one of the mounting taps is shaped different so you know that is the top. Will it be sucking air?

I think that's just a weep hole to let you know if the impeller shaft is leaking. It should face down I belive, but I don't exactly know why it would matter the direction.

No it couldn't suck air, it would piss out coolant when its spinning and or when it's hot if it had any kind of leak.It say's top to make sure the stock style pump has the weeping hole at the bottom, other wise it doesn't matter how it goes on...A few questions need to be asked in regards to you running hot......

Do you just have a stock temp gauge?
What temp is it running at?
What temp thermostat is installed?
Do you have a fan shroud?
What size motor and rad do you have?
Has the cooling system ever been cleaned?
Do you have a clutch fan, direct drive or electric fan?
Are you running lean?

Temp guage is correct .180 thermostat. Electric hhr fan .440 engine new fresh engine about 1000 miles on it. Wieland six pack intake gets up to 220 in traffic.cooling sDidn't have this problem till i changed intake so i think i'm lean.Cooling system clean.Putting it on the dyno to get the center carb adjusted in may.I have a high volume water pump.

If you think your running lean put it a little on the rich side and see if it helps but don't go to crazy you don't want fuel wash....(Excess fuel washing the oil off of the pistons) It's better to be rich than lean...Don't forget that most electric fans only pull air through the area of the rad that they are mounted to.It's better to mount it an inch or so away and mount a shroud to get the full benefit of the fan by drawing air over the entire surface of the rad and not just an 18" hole in the center.Hope that helps :)

fan

The one on the left is what the "high performance" motors would have had. The 8 blade is for A/C equipped cars. It's easy to out-think yourself sometimes. The 8 blade may circulate the water to fast for it to be cooled properly

i just went throught that, it was running hot with the 6 blade, changed to the 8 blade seems to run cooler at idle... my 2cents..

sorry to bring back an old thread, but whick direction are these pumps pictured supposed to spin ?? i ask because i removed my pump and it looks exactly like the one one the top right except the blades are going in the other direction ... and the car runs hot !! the crank spins clockwise, just wondering if maybe i have a reverse direction water pump ??
