71-74 Ralley Cluster HELP

no need really for a harness just that is a little bit easier to get one AND THE RIGHT ONE.

71 is one of a kind

72/73 are the same... maybe JUST a couple of wires turned around on bulkhead. Need to pay attention to washer and brake warning wires and match your engine bay setup.

74 is a TOTAL DIFF MONSTER. Also one of a kind

if you are handy and get the terminals and sockets, you can build your rallye harness from the standard, OR modify an incorrect year for your car making it correct.

I Personally converted once the 74 on 71, since LOCALLY the 74s were wired like 71s ( with wiper and door jam plug exception ) removing the interlock seatbelt stuff... when finally could get a complete interlock system, untapped the harness and reattached back the interlock harness section again.

My car is a 74 but I don't know the year of the cluster.

71 and 72 built to 9/1/71 had either 2-spd and Ver-spd. Cars built after 9/1/71 had either 2-spd or 3-spd. 3-spd replaced the Ver-spd on 9/2/71
I have around 10-20 Rallye clusters and lots of parts. If I get some time I'll pull it out and get some referance pics for ya.

I may need to talk to you at some point

I've accumulated so many different parts from different years for a rally cluster, I don't remember what half of this sheet fits anymore.

ok, CALL IT BACK LUCK IF YOU WANT!!!

Today found a CRACK on my quite nice 74 rallye cluster bezel, on bottom part of speedo opening...

I needed to talk about rallye cluster and then THIS HAPPENS ( have no idea how it happened )

that gets me MAD!!! :angryfire::BangHead:

How do you tell what year cluster you have?

If im remembering right Rebel, There is lights when you turn on the dash lights under the headlight and windshield wiper switch's on a 73 but 74 doesn't, i hope i didn't get that backwards... Im sure there is other factors in the wiring but don't know them, the right person sees your question i know he can help you.

74s are with icons at side of switches ( that's valid for STANDARD and RALLYE cluster )... rest are the same

AND HERE IS THE CRACK I FOUND YESTERDAY!!! :angryfire::sad5:

I'll try to find one locally on friday on a place where could be one, but have serious doubts about that

Judging from the vertical oriented fan switch on the A/C control and the lack of bezel icons at the wiper/headlight switches, I would peg that a non tach/clock rallye originally from a ’73. Looks to have not only the bezel cut out for an aftermarket radio but the cluster frame as well.

Here is the rear of it I guess should have looked closer.I was thinking about changing it over to a tach,is that hard to do?

Much better off the start with a complete clock/tach cluster, as pictured above. The frame is different, even if you could machine the frame, all the gauges would need to be replaced as they are different. The lens assembly is different as the gauge labeling is incorporated into it.

Thanks I guess I will stick with this one and look for a 73 Harness since 74 has the seat belt interlock on it so I can get rid of that at least

You can modify that one, simple as drill holes ( which are stamped ) for the correct gauges studs and cut the opening for the tach, but when you try to find the gauges, you'll find really full clusters or without bezel, so at the end will find you lost the time making the mods on housing.

at the end more than hard to do is really hard to find JUST the parts... LOT easier try to find the cluster ( clock cluster uses to be cheaper then switch it for a repro tach )

Partially true... lettering is not on lense really on black bezel behind the lense... of course is a full lense assembly, but just being specific on this.

yes but no... some mods will be required.

Engine bay wiring won't match, but not hard to do really, thats the easy part.

IF YOU WANT, to keep the seatbelt warning system, will need to find 73 seatbelt system allong with the harness. The seatbelt sensors are on retractor instead on female buckles like 74s did. Then of course the harness under the carpet ( there is one on ebay at this moment ). Seat sensors remains the same.

This makes to keep the seatbelt warning system working, but won't be interlocked like your 74. Keep the 74 setup but "removing" the interlock control function consist on find an orange "interlock" control box which is actualy non interlocked and just a warning control system central unit. They came on Canadian models. ALL warning buzzers are on control box ( interlocked and non interlocked )... key in, lamps on and seatbelts.

getting a 73 harness will require get the 71/73 horn relay ( if doesn't come with harness you find ) to keep the key in warning buzzer which is bui in horn relay. Lamps on warning buzzer is an extra relay ( if you want it ) and extra harness section ( easy to be home made ). Also the seatbets buzzer and system relay, not hard to find.

I'm talking just if you want to keep the factory working parts.

I don't care about keeping the seat belt warning system,I wear my seats belt any way.

I LOVE to keep everything working, every light, everybuzzer... thats why I talk about that LOL

Partially true? Hence the reason I referred to a lens assembly, the lenses and backing are designed to be serviced as a unit. Never indicated the labeling was on the lenses.
