I bought a new fan clutch and was about to mount it and I find that I only have 1/4" clearance between it and the radiator. There wasn't one on it when I got it. Is this enough space or is it too close? Maybe I got the wrong one? Thanks

I would say yes it is. I put a 1" extension on my satty. I thought a 1/2" was plenty. The first time I took it out the fan hit and chewed up my new radiator and of course ruined the fan assembly. I bought all new and now have 1" clearance and haven't had a problem. Don't take a chance. Good luck and take care Howard

I have no spacer, just the clutch fan mounted to water pump shaft. Guess I'll have to look for a shorter clutch. Damn this one's brand new bought it last fall so I can't return it.

I ran my old one with about 1/4 inch and had no issues at all. I think 3/8 to 1/2 inch is ideal. If its too far away from the rad, it wont be affected by the heat and therefote wont tighten up. Or so ive heard.

If your motor mounts are good and everything is tight, i dont seem it being a problem.

May catch some flak for saying this, but you can run a fan clutch from a '91 jag 4.0L and it will bolt up and work fine, all while giving you more space. Seen a couple fella's at 69roadrunner.net and Moparts have luck with them.

Good luck

1/4" is a bit too close for comfort but sounds like Prop has you (and your rad) well on the way to safety.

Hey no sweat.....Just trying to help keep the green on your car and not underneath it. :icon_wink:

NO FLACK FROM ME!! I just bought this Jag fan clutch ( Hayden 2765) And couldn't believe how it worked out. You would think all the specs would be Metric, but- My stock Mopar 7 blade fan fit perfect , even the registers in the middle of fan hole, I can even use the stock mopar fan blade bolts! Hayden includes a bushing that will go from the larger Jag water pump down to the Mopar pump. The water pump bolt holes line up with the jag clutch, altho the bolts are near the edge of the slots in the Jag clutch. NO problem. This Jag fan clutch is over 1/4 " narrower in width and leaves lots of fan room from the radiator. I just mocked mine up and possibly the bushing they sent may need to be narrowed slightly. Most people will never be able to tell it is not a stock Mopar clutch. THANKS A GOB!!..................MO

I did find something that has to be modified a little. The center hole in the fan pulley has to be bigger because of the bushing which makes a larger diameter...........................MO
