Hood Alignment Kicking My Butt...... Right corner of hood near cowl is a little high. But if I correct adjustment, the front of the hood gets worst. I have to go look for a few wrenches I have toss in the yard....

I'm not sure this will help, but I feel your pain. Here's how I fixed mine after weeks of fighting it. I'm not sure on a 69 grille, but worked on my 70.

The hood latch has two bolts which come up through the top, and two which come through the front. As you latch the hood down, the latch will actually pull the hood catch - and the hood - toward the right side of the car (to the left as you are facing into the engine bay. Take a look at the "ramp" on the hood latch and you'll see what I mean.

The forward facing bolts are accessible through the grille, but the extension you need won't fit through the grille with the socket on it. Loosen these bolts. Open the hood and put a socket extension through the grille. Then put the socket (1/2" I think) on it and set it on the bolt and let it hang there. Do the same with the the second bolt.

Now close the hood and push it to where you want it. Put a wooden wedge into the slot between the hood and fender to hold it there. Now go back to the front of the car and tighten the hood-latch bolts, through the grille, using the extensions and socket you put on there.

This was the only thing that worked for me. I HAD to have the hood closed to do the alignment.

I'm assuming the pass side fender is straight? If so, then the front, top part of the fender has to be shimmed out. If you'd like, PM me your phone number and I'll help you throught it. I have 2 67s I can look at while talking to you.

You can also check the fender alignment. That has tobe true before the hood will align on the verticle and horizontal axis.

There is play in the hood bolts up and down. Loosen the rear hood bolt only on the left side & have someone push up on the hood, then tighten it. Also, judging from the hood-cowl clearance, it looks like it can come forward on the left side only.

Richard is right. With the hood open, have someone hold up on the hood at its front. Loosen the rear bolt, maybe the front bolt too, but only a little. With the rear bolt loosened, have your helper push up on the hood. You should see it pivot on the forward bolt, lowering the rear corner. This takes care of the raised rear corner.

To open that gap at the front you should be able to loosen the same bolts and slide the hood forward on just that side. By the photos it looks like it needs to move forward about an 1/8". That's going to give you what you need at the front.

The trick is to accomplish both steps...without one messing with the other...just gotta play with it.

have you x'd your upper body measurements to see if your with dim. to see if your square and then adjust your hood :thinker:

I had a great conversation with FBBO member WS27 about my Hood alignment. He was able to point out a few other problems I'm having. We went over a few measurements & a few ways to realign my fender, door & hood...Need to find a third hand & will try this weekend.....

Not that this is any consolation, but even from the factory, these cars weren't flawlessly fitted together.
