Hate to be the bringer of bad news,

but it appears that we may have lost one of our providers for drive train parts / drive train packages - Keisler Engineering.

The news that I've heard is that they closed their doors yesterday - 1/16/2014 . . .

Not good news at all.

Please do your "due diligence" if you were/are planning a purchase from them - hate to see anybody be in a bad situation.

don't know if the closure is true or not, but i heard some things about them business wise that didn't give me a warm fuzzy feeling.

No comment. Need a confirmation link.

Damn I hope not, I was planning on a Passon 5 speed but definitely don't want to lose the Keisler 6 speed option

I was wondering what the impact on them would be now that the Passon unit is shipping but didn't expect anything so sudden

Hey Brian any word on the price of the Passon 5 speed? I didn't know they were available yet

There's a thread about it and I can't recall which one .. someone will post a link or the answers hopefully

I highly doubt that had anything to do with it. Keisler did gm and ford along with chrysler. Probably just the economy. Who has 5 grand to drop on a trans these days

Their service in a word, SUCKED. Repairs which were of a shady nature took a year and then cost $1000's when Shafi assured us he "would take care of it".

And there is that too. Good economy or bad, not taking care of customers is a killer. Specially now days when everyone talks to everyone online

So, is everyone that bought a Keisler trans SOL for parts now? I thought about a Keisler 5 speed for another car I had but never pulled the trigger. Might make more sense to stick with the factory stuff if you can. Sad to see these suppliers go under.

i don't think keisler is a direct vendor for tremec anymore. a corvette buddy of mine was getting ready to buy the ss700 tranny and we did a little talking around. i thought the deal was kinda "iffy"; deposit money with no firm date of delivery. sounded like a slush fund to me. was the ss700 ever made? did anybody get one? american powertrain should be able to service any tremecs. i have a friend who has a keisler/tremec in his '68 gtx and he's talking about shucking it. i don't think i'd give up an 833 for a tremec; a passon 5spd?....probably.

Well, maybe not. DVW seems to be speaking from experience. If they are that bad they should go under. If there is a demand the market will fill that void. And it will do it better, cheaper.

Around $4400 is ringing a bell from the thread you mentioned... I'll see if I can find it

Here's the thread

I was pretty close:

"The cost was $4295 for all those who were initially on his list. The current cost is $4495."

Thanks goon, pretty close to how much I thought they'd be too. Man, I'm gonna have to save my pennies.. haha

Or sell one of my chebbies I guess :thinker: haha

Here's what i know, I just received my kit last week. The owner was having problems getting the Tremec transmissions directly from Tremec so it would make sense that he is not a direct distributor any longer. What I was told was that he found a new supplier in the Detriot market that has supplied him with enough trannies to get him through a lot of his backorders. Luckily, or maybe not so luckily, i received mine. If they go under, I may be out a driveshaft though. You are correct about crappy customer service. Once they realized he was having problems, he just shut down his inside support. I dont have a whole lot of trust in the company now and I realize that I may be on my own now. :angryfire:

Too bad. He pioneered aftermarket trans kits for classic muscle cars. I bought a TKO setup from him ten years ago. He treated me right back then and I've had my car on display at his booth at Carlisle and the Mopar Nats more than once. Lately, not heard a lot of good things.

Just trying to keep all my friends here at FBBO informed so they're aware of "new" changes in the World of Mopars - don't want anyone in a bad situations from here.

At least, now, it's been brought to the surface . . . I was really surprised nobody else had reported it.
