72 charger stock buckets, the driver side bucket seat back where it meets the push button to allow the seat to go forward, is broken right there, and the seat flops backwards quite a bit to the point of no support, anyone ever repair this with some kind of fashioned brace, or just save my pennies for another?.

I had a 1973 new back in the day. That seat broke in exactly the spot you referred to. I tried having it welded several times and it always broke again. In addition the them splitting on the bottom, another common problem, I ended up getting new (used) seats for the car. Cordoba seats in fact from a yard. Tracks are exactly the same.

My drivers side bucket broke in exact same spot. Welded frame and painted, still fine. That was over 25 years ago

Thanks, I have spare aftermarket seats, but prefer to fix mine, will give it a go. I like the oem seats, even if not as comfortable a new ones.

I had an 87 Cougar that that happened to. I used a few stacked 5 gallon plastic buckets between the rear seat back and the front seat back to hold it up.

Folding seat back fix

You are missing the stop c/w spring located at the top of the seat pan. It's probably best to buy another, or pick up at a swap meet

Nope, not missing the stop, after removing the seat cover some, the entire metal back was broke in two, using a lot of wet rags and water on standby(don't want my next thread to be "how I burned up my charger") started welding the plate, almost done with one side and a light tack on the other to hold it place, will have to finish tomorrow, was down to my last welding rod. It's already tough as hell only partially welded, after I finish it, I might add some metal plate bracing, it will be hidden by the plastic seat back.

good to know on the Cordoba seats

The Doba seats are great donors for parts as the upper and lower frames are the same.
However, the tracks are most definitely different.

All welded up, pretty sturdy as far as I can tell, the shape of the seat back prevented me from adding any support pieces on the outside of it, but when I get a new seat cover and everything has to come back out for a complete dis-assembly, I'm going to weld in a couple ribs to prevent it from happening again, I'll weld them on the inside, in the meantime, it's fury seat cover time made from the finest Bigfoot hair in the world.

I used a length of 2x4 between the back of the seat and the rear seat. :)

That's what was in there:tongue6: Feels good to have some back support now, now if this stinking Ohio winter weather will just quit, just this past Saturday(9 days ago) we had 4 inches of snow, with only an occasional tolerable warm day since, raining almost everyday, freezing temps at night, now it's raining and cold as can be. Sux!

Maybe you otta detune the hot motor in that baby?

The thing is so cranked up it not only throws you back in your seat, hell, it breaks the seat completely apart! :headbang:

hahaha, bought it that way, and the only thing that 318 will throw is probably a rod...although the PO said it was rebuilt with more HP than a stock 360...I call BS on that one, and he did have the trans rebuilt with a different valve body supposedly for the increased HP and because it was tired, only problem, it has 2-something rear gears and 275 tires, so it's not quick out of the starting gate. Future mods are already dancing in my head, I want another 383/727 setup.
