Here's my problem guys,

I've got a 69 Coro and it's under charging. I get 12.2v at the terminals when the engines running.

I've got a single field alternator and at some stage a previous owner has done some funky stuff with the electrics as I've got a wire running from the alternator output direct to the battery (ok so far) but they've put a toggle switch in the middle of it.

Anyway, I've done some research and gone to test the regulator but I'm buggered if I can find it. Where's the stock location for it (is it internal?).

Cheers
Scotty

It is on the firewall, black box about 1 1/2 inches by 2 inches.

or it was replaced with a internal regulator 1 wire alt
and they do not start to charge until you rev it up and then it will start

Thanks gents, got a second pair of hands to hold the multimeter probes whilst I gave her a few revs and we picked up a nice 14v charge across the terminals. Must be an internal 1 wire alternator.

One more job crossed off my list!

Thanks again

That's weird cuz my one wire tuff stuff charges at idle. hmm think something is wrong or you got a GM alt in there.

The GM type ones will charge at Idle but need a little RPM to excite them first

Definitely a Chrysler alternator. Max's out around 14.5v once the engine gets a few revs up.

so this has two wires to it one battery and one for regulator just follow that wire to regulator
