Adding AC, what else should be upgraded???

Luckily it's starting to cool down here in NY, but if I want to have the wife and my son ride in the car next summer, I gotta install AC.

So you know, I have a 67 Coronet with a 383, and power steering, bendix brake booster, stock Alternator, 4 blade fan, 26" radiator with no shroud. Car is a factory Non-AC car.

Should I be concerned about upgrading any wiring, the Alternator (go to the 1970+ dual field?) or even the fan? Should I get a fan shroud? It does get really hot and the car may see a lot of driving in the southern States next year. I figure I can save and locate the parts all winter then put them in as a project when the spring hits.

Yes, get the fan shroud. Even if your car won't overheat, the extra airflow will improve the efficiency of the A/C cooling coils. You might want more fan blades to go with that. Is your rad two or three core?

Yes, fan shroud 2785434 and fan blade as mentioned. You may want to consider a water pump as they are different with A/C as well as a fan clutch.
Fan blade is 7 blade w/AC - part number 2585376. 2658456 clutch. Water pump 2808681. Those are the Chrysler numbers, they should cross at the NAPA website.
Alternator is different as well but you may get away with that, But if not the correct one is 2806040 or 2806043. Again, should interchange.

There is a solenoid that increases the idle of the carb when the A/C is on. If you don't have one, the car will idle too low with the A/C (or too high without it). It is powered when the A/C is on and simply pushes on the throttle just a little bit.

If you do as ODZKing suggests and use the A/C water pump, you'll need a different pulley as well since that pump runs at a different speed. Here's a chart with the water pump to crankshaft ratio:

I added Classic Auto Air and am using the same pump and no switch to bump up rpm's. So far so good.

Or are the 383/440/Big block parts more specific than I initially thought? I'm completely in the dark, but would like to be "frugal" when possible as I piece together the Mopar factory AC related parts since the sanden compressor and classic system are almost $1500 before labor.

And aslong as you are not going for factory/OEM anyway get what you can a t a reasonable price. Again, you may get away with the pump, but my thought is as long as you have the engine torn apart anyway ... the correct water pump at NAPA is $37.

Thanks, I'll definitely get the new pump along with the pulley, fan, clutch, and shroud over the winter. Time to scour eBay and the forums. Then I'll upgrade the Alternator before purchasing the compressor and vintage air kit.

Would it be worth to purchase all the engine brackets??

Would brackets from a 69 383 block fit the 67 with no issues? They are the same, right?
