Mark Worman Wrong Again?

Then you might want to read this: http://www.allpar.com/corporate/bios/jack-smith-roadrunner.html

According to Jack Smith, those rights were bought and paid for in 1967 for use on the 1968 Roadrunner. They had to have those rights before they could use any Warner Brothers art on the car.

This also describes how the horn was a last minute addition to the car, which is why it was installed as it came from the vendor, which was black.

I have read it, perhaps you should re read it. The image on the 68 was chosen from a stack of submissions from warner brothers. They didnt get to use any old image they wanted to. It even says that if they had lost the plate from WB they would have had t use images that were done in house and some of them were so close to WB roadrunner they might have wound up in court over using them. All this stuff was done so last minute and they didnt have time to dick around. Production on 68s had to start in August of 67 I would say. It takes time to tool up and produce parts for mass production. After the 68s were rolling out then they could focus on the next model year.

I have a real early 6BBL and It has the standard wheel with no bird decal. I also have one of those key chains that came with the car when I picked it up in 87. Are you guys saying that keychain came with the car from the dealer??

I have a very original 68 Road Runner (since 1982) and no bird on the steering wheel. My car has the decor package and uses the regular Plymouth wheel with the full horn ring. It wasn't until 69 the RR got all the fluff with full color birds, etc.. And lest we forget that the 69 RR was the Motor Trend car of the year.

Oh, I just remembered that the only full color bird on the 68 RR is on the trunk finish panel.
Meep, with all due respect, I have to disagree that the 68 RR with the trunk finish panel had a color RR decal. As I recall, I thought that black and white RR decal looked so cheap that i took it off the door and trunk panel. My new RR was ordered late in the Winter and arrived in the Spring. Possibly the later built ones did have color?..........................MO

If I ever get as much right as Mark does, I'll be happy to get as much wrong as he does. Much more knowledgeable than I'll ever be.
As far as the RR trim & such, my brother bought a 68 in 1970. My dad's comment was that it had all the cosmetics of a taxi cab. They were strippers, only built to go fast cheap.
That is what I thought too. Then Mid year they had the 2 dr hdtp option, vinyle roof, and optional exterior trim and interior option. They looked SOOO good, I had to order a new one with those options( among others) ...................MO

Cool Budnicks!
Actually in responce to Budnicks pictures and post. Evidently your 68RR had the "up-grade" steering wheel. Mine, which had the exterior and interior options that yours has, had the steering wheel as shown at the far left. Also just the dog dish hubcaps.
Cool seeing those blue wind-breaker jackets. The dealer gave both me and my wife those jackets when we took delivery. I can remember that day like it was yesterday. Boss let me off work early to pick up the car and as soon as wifey got home, we drove it down to where my buddy worked in a gas station and put the Keystones on that I had already bought. I had painted the sides of spokes black- just like Keystone did with their later wheels. 100 miles round trip break-in and I had a terrible temptation to get on the go fast pedal!............................MO

Sonny had 2 "new" '68 RR...one was a coupe, & one hardtop...hardtop was black/ red interior ....other was drk blue with blue interior...I CANNOT remember if either had a "bird" on the steering wheel!

.....the hard top had a chrome strip over rocker panel

Well this thread just goes to show us that Ma Mopar did a lot of strange things the last time I heard ol know it all worman put his foot in his mouth was this statement " NO 8¾ EVER BEHIND A 440" !?? WELL MY 68' GTX HAS SAID DRIVE TRAIN DUMMY ! I THINK WHAT HE WAS TRYING TO SAY IS NO 8¾ BEHIND 440 ON E-BODYS BUT HE DIDN'T SAY THAT I WANTED TO JUMP THREW THE TV AND SLAP HIM UP SIDE THE HEAD! LOVE SEEING THE CAR **** ON GRAVE YARD BUT SO TIRED OF ALL THE JACKING AROUND!!:violent-smiley-100:

With a 4 speed?

I think the 'Drama' of GYC makes the show enjoyable. When Mark called Josh a "Bearded Colostomy Bag" I about peed my pants! If the 'drama' is not there, GYC will get canceled, these shows have a short shelf life.

Plenty of 440 (and HEMI) cars were built with automatics and 8-3/4" rears - A, B, C, and E bodies. The Dana 44 was the axle that came standard behind all four-speed 440 and Hemi cars. You would find an 8-3/4" behind a 383 4-speed, however, as standard equipment.

I'm kinda tired of so much drama myself. I remember my youngest complaining at night that all she could hear in her room when she was trying to sleep were the beeps. The TV was turned down but the beeps would come through....and I'm sick of all the beeps too. It's lot easier and cheaper to edit sound with a beep instead of editing out the sound all together and I just turned off the show because of it.

I would agree ^^^^. I did record one episode. by the time I went through the drama and commercials, out of 1 full hour, there were barely 15 minutes of actual quality TV left. Its no wonder people think Mopar people are a bunch of arrogant whiners lol. there is some good content but god forbid it just couldn't be a 60 minute serious fact learning experience. the mute button on the remote really gets a work out.

"This Old House"

Restoration/how to format.

95% no drama.

40year plus run.

Did Mark say in the 72 318 Rallye reveal episode that the 340 was the smallest engine you could get with dual exhaust?

Pretty sure that 72 (and 73/74) Rallye 318 could have duals and tips as part of the Rallye package.

Same with the RR in 73/74- 318 got duals, but ONLY in the RR.

Also did he say (or at least infer) that 318 and 440 were the only options?

That's not right either.

Love GYC and I would turn it off if I had to watch them do body work. If a person wants to learn that go to a trade school and leave the tv alone.

I've seen a Dana 44 in trucks, and AMC Eagle but not one of our cars... Did you mean Dana 60?

Yeah, of course 60..I'm trying to sell a Dana 44 front axle right now, so I've got 44 on the brain.

True, but if your interest is outside of his very narrow span of interest of New England furniture and architecture, it's really a pretty boring show much of the time.

Is Norm Abrams even on that show anymore?

I think it's some younger red headed guy, and now they have a plumber and an electrician, as well as a carpenter.

No comments about 318's with factory dual exhaust?

I bet there were thousands of 73 and 74 318 Roadrunners with factory duals and tips.

I bet there were far fewer 72 (and 73/74 for that matter) Rallye Chargers with that engine option.

Also Royal and Josh were surprised that the Cuda in Phantasm didn't have tips.

Are they not familiar with California spec cars?

Also, just because you got duals, doesn't mean you automatically got tips.

Here's a picture of my dads 68 roadrunner with factory color decals on the door it also had one on the trunk without the finish panel image.jpgimage.jpg

all of those car reality tv shows make me gringe. seems to me that most "know it all's" weren't present when the muscle car thing was happening so hearsay is passed down as truth. if your not in your '60's, then you weren't there.

Although not an automotive show, at more than 30 years "This Old House" is the longest running reality show on television. No drama. I wish the automotive shows would follow that format. I watch auto shows for information. If I wanted drama I would watch the Kardashians!
