Carb choice, Holly or Eledebrock?

carb

I have no plans on racing it ( at least on a track..lol)
Edelbrock only makes two types of carbs ( on their website)
The AVS and the preformer series, I do not see an AFB.
Ron, no problem on your choice..thanks.
The one thing I am finding out...if I use the holly I might have to use new fuel lines as the holly not not match up to the stock lines. Plus the holly is dual feed, they did say it comes with the dual lines. Since I had the edelbrock on it before, I know that it will match up ok. I had the preformer series on it before I rebulit the engine, but I was thinking about going to the AVS. I am leaning that way unless someone tells me it is the wrong way to go.
Thanks all.

The "Performer" series carb is an AFB.

I myself would do a AVS, though hooking up the Holley is only a purchase of the fuel line for the carb and adding a nipple for the hose to connect to. A small extra line of 3/8 rubber hose and a fuel filter take up the room quite well and should be used on a new carb installation.

Truly, the wrong way to go is neither here or there, but IMO, the choice should be made on what your comfy to with to work on and feel good about.
Any carb will or should need a little bit of tuning. Any carb with a bit of tuning should get good mileage and power. Be it a box stock OE carb or a fine and well preped Holey double pumper with a 4 corner idle system and no sir horn or choke.

Each carb has there good points and there bad points, all of which aren't so super superior or bad on the application your working on to worry about in any amount.

Personally, I have my second an EB 750. Not happy with them. Stumble off of idle on both carbs. down on power. I thought a new one would stop the stumble? It didn't.

Are you able to tune or are you a "bolt in on and go" kinda guy. Sounds like a tuning issue to me.

Holley for me, just my preferences

For stock on mostly stock street car or restoration build, the Edelbrock is fine,
I like the OE Factory style AFB or AVS or Themoquad is my personal preferences...

I'm not a big fan of Edelbrock carbs "at all", that just my opinion
I know some people swear by them,
BUT I'm not one of those people !!

There are far better Edelbrocks out there too,
they are from custom carb shops, if you want a bolt-on & performance,
if you don't want to learn or don't know how to tune them....

BUT IMO it's total BS that Holley can't or won't work,
or always leak, or only dual feed blah blah blah etc.,
that's ignorance {sorry not meant to offend anyone}
For those that are toataly biased or don't know they have OE single feed Holley's too,
some were used on OE Mopars too,
& they also have Spread bore type carbs available too,
with small primaries & larger secondaries,
they have many vacuum & mechanical choices too
or that all Holley's dumps more fuel at idle, just silly,
something's here are just stated wrong IMO,

IMO they are all really infinitely adjustable,
just as adjustable if not more than a Carter-Edelbrock/Weber,
it really depends on what carb, what parts used & what style/size carb
it's merely just a different way of adjusting them...
Theory is still the same...

If either is tuned properly, they will be fine...

Just saying one is better, isn't right, it's preferences,
it's likes & dislikes/preferences PERIOD

I've had far more tuning issues with Edelbrocks
{& especially the Performer #1411 750cfm}
than "any Holley style 4bbl or 2bbl I've ever used"...
That's just my experience, others will have a completely different outlook
& their own experiences...

Don't be too narrow minded, don't limit yourself,
use what you can & learn to make them work...

I'd highly suggest those that want to run a Holley style carb,
to read up on them,
know/learn how to tune them,
same thing with the Edelbrock/Carter/Weber knockoffs,
they are good too, for the right applications,
you need to know how to tune either one...

It's just not my particular choice to use Edelbrocks, unless maybe on a muti-carb appl.
but to each their own opinions...
That's mine, it doesn't mean I think Edelbrocks are junk, I just don't prefer them...

Seems your either a
Holley,
Holley HP
,
Quickfuel,
Proform,
AED Performance,
Demon or whomever's Holley style/based carb camp

or their the Carter-Edelbrock/Weber camp people,
either can be made to work, if you have enough patients...LOL

some will never accept the other brands either,
it's plain & simple biased opinions

What he said ^

In my experience, a Holley double pumper is easier to work on and tune than an Edelbrock. I get lost when I take those AFB style carburetors apart. Tuning a Holley is pretty straight forward in my opinion. I have a buddy who is a diehard Edelbrock fan who thinks Holley is garbage. Arguing with him is like trying to argue down a brick wall. But then my car runs better than his :icon_fU:
