Just wanting y'alls opinion on a truck I am looking at.

It's a 1983 Dodge Ram. It has a newly rebuilt 318 (~3000 miles), 185k on the body itself. Automatic. It runs a drives.

Cool looking truck but it is rough around the edges. I'm thinking closer to $2000 but the seller is trying to recoup some of the costs from the engine rebuild and a few other parts. The truck is three hours away so I'm trying not to waste my time.

Really, I am just looking for a truck to use for going back and forth to the hardware store, getting a yard of dirt or rock, etc. I know I can get a new truck for the same price but they aren't as cool looking. And these are easier to work on. I have been looking for weeks now, I missed out on a great truck two weeks ago :argue:. This is the only thing I have seen since.

Well, it still has the ram ornament on the hood. Because of that i would split the difference. If he wants to recoup money spent he should have put it into something more valuable than a 83 ram with a 318. If it runs real good, why not. Hows the rust?

Whenever I see that much wiring hanging below the dash I think twice...

Problem for me is I see a diamond in the rough, and would then set about to restore it against my better judgment..

I noticed the ornament too, makes me think it was at least kind of taken care of. I haven't seen it yet as far as the rust is concerned. But if its not addressed soon where he pulled the molding off, it will get bad.

Noticed that too.

Well it'll be a work truck for the time being. But I see potential. I would at least address the paint issue soon than later just so it doesn't look like crap in my driveway.

Around here, that is a $1,500 hooptie truck...assuming it has a title in the seller's name, and the tag is current. If no title, it's worth to me would be scrap.

Clean title. Needs tag.

I think y'all are right. The more I look at the pics, $2000 would be the high end.

I think $2000 is fair. There's one by me (83) with a /6 and a 4 speed guy wants 1800 it's got rust though (a lot) the truck by me is all org with only 70k documented miles on it (with a/c) (working)

I agree with ^^^^^^^. 2k is fair. If its 4x4 and not rusted out. 2500 is pushing it. Rebuilding a 318 is a waste of time and in my opinion adds nothing to the value of the truck. Im sorry he wasted his time and money doing it. It would have been cheaper and easier to find a good running engine and drop it in.

I wouldn't go over $1500. on that one, and that is only if the 4x4 works with no odd noises. I'd bet there are some electrical problems as well.

I gave $300 for my shortbed '88 four years ago. V6 5 speed. bed needed fixed over the rear wheels. ran like a champ then the trans went bad. swapped in a '87 318 and 904.

Watch out for high mileage 4x4 drive train stuff. If you have to start rebuilding stuff like transfer cases, then expect to pay as it isn't cheap. I would say that $1000 to $1500 would be a fair range, no more.

and can you really trust a "rebuilt" 318?

the more i look at the pictures, the lower the number.......... how much is scrap now a days?

that truck will cost you 1500 even if you get it for free

in California that's a $500.00 truck with no rust...i don't mean any disrespect but that thing is rough, i mean could you turn around and make money on it or are you topped out on its value ? Good Luck i know I've bought cars that i just had to have regardless of value !!

i agree, WAY too much money, i just sold my 89 V6 with 4sp o/d stick for 1200.00.. ran like a top !

Agreed. Where's the lever to pull it into 4WD? No way I'd pay 2k. You could get a late 90s early 2000s Ram for 2k around here instead.
