Every time I wash the car I get a bunch of water pooled on both floor plans. It seems to be coming from the bottom of the windshield.

The gasket is on the newer side and still seems flexible and soft but is it reusable? Can I sneak some kind of sealant between the glass and the gasket? Gasket and body? I am not sure if this is something I should tackle myself or call a glass professional. Any suggestions?

bet it's coming from the wiper pivots....get a flashlight, look up under the dash while someone hoses down the car with the doors closed.....you should be able to see where the water is coming from....unless your car has factory AC, then it might be a bit more difficult to see everything under there

I can say I did the water hose test and didn't get any leaks when watering the wiper pivots or carefully spraying water in the cowl. Only when I let a light stream of water run down the glass did I get lots of water coming straight into the car behind the dash.

Sounds like you'll have to pull the glass and install a new gasket! At the least reseal it!

Can the gasket be reused? I have never pulled or replaced a windshield before. I am trying to understand but is there two pieces to the gasket, the gasket and a locking strip or is it all one piece?

Do you think I should try and seal between the gasket and the windshield with a butyl windshield sealant or is this just gonna make a big mess?

it's all one piece....if you are leary about doing it, call a glass shop and see what they wold charge you

I recommend a shop too. With new glass and gasket, leaking was reduced to a drop or two on the passenger side. I rinse gently on that area.

You can try the butyl sealant and if that doesn't work! You'll have to remove the glass! I'd suggest cutting the seal! 9 out 10 times you'll break it because the gasket is really hard from age. it will take two people to reinstall the windshield! It's not that difficult! take it to a glass shop and have it done, that way if they break it it's on them to replace it!

I had the best luck sealing up 66 b-body windshield leaks by pulling my car half way out of the shop at night so it was extra dark in the interior and with lots of bright shop lights pointed at the cowl. I also would put something over the windshield.

From there I would look under the dash for places where light was coming through and push 3M black weatherstripping adhesive in the gap. This solved all of my problems on my '66 with the original Mopar glass/gasket. Mind you this car is driven year round (rain, etc.) in Oregon.

FYI disturbing the glass might enhance the problem until you follow the step above. If you do remove the windshield and install another gasket (I'd replace the glass personally) I would source it from Steele Rubber Products. Good luck!

Are you sure it's leaking around the windshield? I thought mine was leaking but it was the wiper shaft seals.
