Not sure if I posted this in the right section, but here it goes.
Question for those who have done business with SMS auto.
How long has it take to get door panels from this company? Are they to be trusted?
Reason I ask is because I ordered front and rear door panels for my belvedere 64 in December last year. I know door panels take long time to produce but 6 month has gone by. The just keep telling me they get to my order soon, paid 1200 bucks for these.

Don´t really know what to go from here, maybe cancel the order?

Thanks,

a few years ago I ordered a Pontiac interior from them and it took a year or more to get ..... a long time but was very pleased when I got it

SMS can be trusted.

They have a VERY busy shop and lead times can range from 6 months to a year or more for some items, but their work is top notch without a doubt. I think that when you do receive your door panels, you will be more than happy with the results.

IMO, regardless of end quality if they didn't tell you the average wait time is 6 months to a year then they are full of it. I can't stand companies that aren't up front and honest with customers. I value the ones that are.

Thanks for all the coments.
Thirst they told me the end of march then they just keep saying the will start my order soon. They never give me the reason why it takes soo long time.
But what I know, no one else makes the belvedere panels but sms, can only find fury, sport fury panels

Ok , here's the deal....it takes a long time to get your orders but they do arrive. The quality is awesome .
I waited 22 months for 2 sets of door panels.i got all the same excuses (your next in line , your moving up the line,we've had set backs with orders in front of yours,
The person who gave you that date is not here anymore,we need to make dies for your panels blah blah blah)
They do so many for ALL years and MAKES of cars.
It's a real painful experience but you must wait patiently , they will come but who knows when .Lucky your in line and 6 months ahead.

It sounds to me that they need to hire some extra employees to get their orders out. Either that or they cant keep good help because they wont pay their people a decent wage and they have a high turnover. It sounds like this is a common problem with them based on the earlier replies.

I had the same thoughts when I ordered my parts from SMS. I would phone and hear excuses and I had given up on them but they did deliver eventually. In my opinion they are worth the wait. I waited almost a year for my headliner for the 65 Coronet but it was perfect when it arrived. My buddy waited for over six months for his door panels and they are perfect as well. I would have no problem ordering from them again especially if its a hard to get piece.

Someday your order will be done and the quality is top notch. I too wish they would be more up front and just tell you that it will take a year. I ordered mine in January of '14, still waiting.

took me 2 years to get my 63 dodge 440 door panels from them, with repeated phone calls and emails, but it was my only choice as they are the only ones doing the 63 dodge door panels.
good luck

Seems they do quality work, thanks for all the replies!
They will get 6 more month to get them done, then I will cancel my order and go for fury panels from classic ind.

Thanks everyone!

Based on above comments I would say the sting of price and wait time will subside with the pleasure of excellent quality. I would rather have right than fast. I do have to say though it would make me nervous myself waiting that long for an order. I'm not the patient type. But I like things done correctly.

They have several job openings via craigslist in the last 3 months, each paid less than $15 per hour.

We like the product they turn out - but it's not exactly a career oriented position for the upwardly mobile....

They must get quality people out of Craig's list. What could possibly go wrong. Two years for parts is ridiculous.

I got an idea , ask them how many hours goes into the average door panel then give them an extra 5or6 bucks an hour to hire more people . Myself, I always ask how long something will take when I have special order. It's a patience game and from what I hear , it pays off , my.02$

Well, I asked them if the could deliver in late march/ early april, and the said they will try.
E-mailed them again last week, explained that I want a serious answer regarding the delivery time. Still waiting for a respond:angryfire:

well it seems kj that as long as there are happy customers with the end product supporting them and admiring their work, upholding the 1 or 2 year wait time..... you have no recourse. You'll just have to feel privileged to give them your money.
