Wife and I are about out head out for our first cruise and our first time to the Bahamas. Got a screamin deal through work on the Carnival Sensation mid september this year.

Anyone been or have any insight?

We are traveling with another couple (good friends) that have been but was hoping to get more than just their perspective on it.

I hear the locals try to run scams on you in Nassau......other than that not too much drama....

Anyone?

Thanks in advance.

Been there many many times. If you have most of a day in Nassau I would rent mopeds and see the island that way. Of course you dont need to. The best walking around is over at Atlantis. My brother was a landscape foreman installing palms and trees of all kinds when the place was first built. They spent a year installing one barge of trees per week delivered from south florida. Amazing place. Grand Bahama island not nearly as much to see, but the beaches are nice.
Expect terribly slow service at any restaurants. As always, be alert and try to stay in the touristy areas. Its a little bit safer but scammers and thieves are everywhere.

Stay the hell out of Senior frogs. There are much better places to have a drink. You can eat at the "Fish fry". There are two areas called the fish fry. The original is actually very touristy and a PITA, but the second one under the bridge to Atlantis is pretty cool. Try the conch salad.

Let me know how it goes because we're headed out on a Disney Cruise with the kids not long after you. I'm honestly not too excited....... scared shitless of the Ocean!

When shitting over the railing, be sure it clears. That's a white boat. I was there in 74. Rented a 50cc step-thru scooter and had a blast riding it through heavy downpour. Just kept riding and dried off. I was 21 and probably should have drowned on that trip. Waded out way far at night drunk as a skunk. Don't wander beyond recommended areas as I recall. Those were the rum-swizzle party days. Ate lobster till we were sick of it. Have fun. Take pics! Got a NP74 Lic plate somewhere.

The cruise boat sways side-to-side.. balance yourself with a cocktail in each hand... I can vouch for that.

When the sun sets on the pool deck, It’s something to behold ...

I have cruised many places and carnival tries very hard to make people happy. Make sure you book seats for the shows on the ship which are real fun, if you get sea sick get patches for your neck and put them on 3 days before you leave. The issue is they over pack the ships with too many people. You can save a fortune if your willing to take an inside berth. Also buy your drink tickets before you sale other wise they will get your wallet. The ship will be crowded with nice people and a lot of low class people who go to the buffet and eat like birds on a bird feeder. The food at sit down dinners is very good in fact excellent. The Bahamas is plagued with poor people who will try to pan handle you for everything. When in Nassau take a private cab around the island for 25.00 per person and make sure you tip the taxi driver other wise he will take you for a crummy ride. Make sure you make the deal up front. The city is clean and the police keep watch on the street people. It is very hot all day but not humid. wearing a hat is a must. If you want a vacation on a ship take a river boat Cruise in the US otherwise going to Bahamas is like going to Disney world or Great adventure. If you can change your plans go to Bermuda or go to Aruba! By ship try Royal Caribbean a much better line.

Sorry but have to be honest

Yeah, I would say be prepared ahead of time if you are prone to sea sickness, or don't know. The first time I went on a cruise there, the water in the pool was sloshing out. The rough conditions resulted in a near empty dining room. I had somebody try to lift my wallet while we were shopping another time. One time I nearly fell out of bed in the middle of the night, because someone jumped overboard and the ship had to make a U-turn. All good.

Thanks folks Ill report back. Always wanted to do a cruise so figured why the hell not.

You cant get a room for 5 nights anywhere for the price of my 5 day cruise tickets so why not.

I have not cruised there, but I have vacationed there. Nassau is a typical tourist trap, the outer islands are tropical paradise, amazing.

You will have a blast. Post some pics!

My advice was going to be similar to what Cranium said but he beat me to it. Anyway, have a great time...probably don't want to drink the water?

Dennis H: frickin' hilarious :rolling:

I just heard they were starting a cruise from Palm Beach to Cuba. Might have to try that sometime.

We went with Royal Carribean and had a good time. The part that I was not happy with was the fact that they let you off the ship at 8am and you had to be back by 6pm. No night life to enjoy on the island. They want you to spend your money with the line. Met a lot of nice people on the cruise and the weather was fantastic. Got a lot of pictures and a lot of good memories from that vacation. Rum is cheap and good.

Scooters are a must! ( ... a little hard to get used to riding on the wrong side of the road though, especially after a few barley pops) :VB toast:
