Hello and Welcome! The 1973 dodge charger I'm building has a 318 motor... and i have two edelbrock carburetors I could install. I have found a proper intake manifold, but was wondering which would give me best power. I will be installing higher compression pistons in the motor (8.5:1 will be removed, 9.5:1 will be installed) and a mild cam of sorts. The 500 has an electric choke (which I'm not a fan of), and the 600 has a manual choke. Which should I install??? Oh.... and the car was a 2bbl car with the automatic, so what can I do to connect the kickdown cable and shift linkage to the edelbrock? thanks for all the help on this awesome website.

I would go with the 600, change the choke if you like electric...
kick down should hook up the same way..

Yeah that's what I thought. I was just worried that 600 cfm might be too big for a 318. But that's nice to know that kickdown setup will be the same!

the 600 has the same size primarys as a 318 2bbl so it should work fine. the 500 has the same throttle bores as the 600 but has a more restrictive primary cluster. electric chokes aren't a big deal to disconnect. either would work.

a 600 isint to big, would work fine... i have a 625 on my 318 and works much better then a 500 i have tried.. More get up...

Install the 500 and use for 1 year. Then install the 600 and report back. ;)

I'm sure a 500 would work fine but I'd go with the six.

good call, easily put the choke you want on the 600 and go to town..

I'd say forget hopping up the 318, leave it a driver. Find a running 360 that you can swap in later. 360's are cheap and common.

I already have a 360.. but I just don't want to deal with the different flywheel and motor mounts.

Use the 318 motor mounts, just use a nut to take up the space.
A B&M flex plate takes care of the balance issue with a neutal torque converter. Cheap stuff. FWIW

I could do that... but I want the motor to be the correct year for the body. If I can remember correctly, 360s weren't available in chargers until 1974. Would the 360 really have more power potential???

YES! The torque difference is major. Better heads, bigger ports etc..

I have a well built 340 in my Roadrunner and it leaves my friends 318 standing. If you want originally, fair play, but people pull 'teens out of these cars for a reason. Did that swap on my old Dart. Space the engine mount, replacement flex plate. Go and drive and enjoy the difference
