Im going to look at a 1972 Pace Arrow motorhome that the owner says has a 440 and 727 in it and I recently heard that many came with an industrial 361 or 413 and that they may look very similar. I am a novice at this and wanted to know if there was any obvious ways to tell the difference and make sure its a 440 im looking at.
thanks for any advice-Thequickster

For an RB block look for the stamp pad just forward of the valley pan. It will have 440 or 413 stamped in it, probably under a layer of grease. 383 will be stamped on passenger side of block behind the alt. 361 being a B is probably the same as 383, and definitely will not have the pad on top like the 440.

In many cases, the heads on the "industrial" blocks are unique. The exhaust ports are not at 90 degrees to the floor as with all other B/RB heads, they are angled.

Definitely look for that id pad toward the front of the motor. Some are stamped really faintly, so clean the pad up and look close!

Thanks for all the help ill make sure to look and see what exactly it is...... really hoping its actually a 440

yes you dont want the 413 so make sure to bring something to clean off that pad and a good flashlight.
altho the hicomp 413 i had in the travco was cool,it still wasnt a 440.

reminds me,for you guys ganking big blocks from motorhomes,
the dodge Travcos/late 60-s are still highly prized and sell for good coin.
the travco was a fiberglass body.

If it turns out to be a 413, make a drive over here to Florida. We're tripping over motorhome 440s right now.

Look on the side of the block. Should be cast into the block. At least it is for passenger cars. Remember, if it is a short tail shaft trans, it's no good for a car.

But....It is good for 4wd trucks and for shorty Gear Vendors applications!

On the motorhome and truck blocks, there are a couple of extra bumps in the casting above the bell housing and below the heads. Nothing wrong with the 413 blocks. That's what a lot of the max wedge racers are using because of it's strength.

thanks for all the info , I go look at it tomorrow and will be sure to check everything out, ill let yall know what happens
