Winter Storage?

Mine is in a cold building. I top off tank add stabil and put it on a trickle charger. Then cover the floor under it with cardboard for moisture control. I place mouse traps at all four tires and put drier sheets and moth balls inside the car. I leave the hood up so it isnt a good place for them to build a nest. I have caught around 10 mice in the traps so far this year but no signs of them in the car ever.

Doesn't it stink bad from the mothballs? I use dryer sheets. Never a mouse problem so far (fingers crossed).

my charger is stored in my pole barn under a cover

that side is not heated at all, but i keep the battery tender on it (i switch it between my car and truck every week)

I put some stabil in the tank on my last drives of the year...that way i know its worked thru the lines

I make sure the radiator is full, and i start my car about 1 time a month. I let it idle for 30 min or so....temp gets up to operating temp.

I give it a few revs to force any moisture out of the exhaust.

Same process for my 98 ram 1500. Been doing that for the last 7-8 winters...never any issues

First thing i do when the weather breaks in the spring is change the oil in both vehicles....and filters of course

as far as fuel, this summer im going to run strictly 90 octane ethanol free in both vehicles and my 5 gallon can (mowers, blowers, etc)

Its at a station 1 mile from my house, and its pure gas

Rearranged the mess of vehicles today. Got all 3 hemi-cars in back, and the `cuda and my friend's demon up front. Once the Demon is gone, I'll move the WO car up for some long over-due work.

You poor Bastards. I just drive it year-round.

Winter is when I build cars. It's my favorite part of the hobby. They just bore me after I'm done building them.

Man do I love that Coronet! Beautiful car.

Thank you. Today was the first time it's seen daylight/outside in almost 3 years. I forgot how much I still like it. It's really in need of some loving. When I get it up front....I'll be refinishing most of the front and rear suspension, before installing the fresh hemi and trans.

Mine are stored in my heated shop (60) and covered. Both have oil accumulators for start-up, but fuel is not touched. I will have to rotate newer engine bi-weekly to spread out valve spring loading. First car sat for 18 years without any attention in my unheated barn and rolled over with a 1/2" ratchet wrench at the end of storage. I did have to clean out the fuel system and distributor points but, the carbs had been rebuilt years earlier and were dry. Started right up! When the 65 is done I plan to stack them for over-wintering on a 4 post lift.

I keep my cars at around the same temperature. I've read and heard that occasionally starting the engine during storage is NOT good since you are creating water vapor and it doesn't have a chance to evaporate. Any thoughts on this?
The water vapor is a problem, You have to run the car a long time to burn off that moisture. Otherwise you'll be putting on a new exhaust system every year.

I ran into the water issue last winter. I had just built the stroker and wanted to make sure it was running good and tweaking carb etc. My garage stays about 45 during winter months. Running the car once a week and sometimes 3-4, I built up a ton of condensation. It was nasty! Did a complete cleanup and oil change and no issues since. I do think conditions have to be right for it to happen but I think this year, trickle charge battery, keep anti freeze good and just do a few jobs to it and call it good. I'll start it in the spring! Good luck to all during the winter! Except of course to all those that can still drive your cars!
 Just kidding, I wish I could!

Keep my shop above the dew point, about 60 degrees. put a battery tender on at the first of the month till it goes green.
