I am thinking of changing out the stock 16" steering wheel on my 67 Coronet. Since I will be putting in a 4-speed, it looks like my knee will hit it every time I shift. The car has power steering so a 13.5" wheel will be a win-win because steering effort is very easy.

Who has swapped out their steering wheel? In past cars I have used the walnut Superior 500 with chrome spokes, but here are some other choices. Any pictures or advice would be appreciated!

I think a period three spoke black with chrome does the trick.

Original Grant or "The 500".

Those four spoke ones you show look too modern IMO, unless you've got aftermarket stuff everywhere else.

13.5 is a good choice as a 12" obscures the speedo.

Agreed. Reduce the dish and diameter. The old Sport-Wheel does not work for me either. With power steering it is not necessary. Had a Grant GT for years, was given a Momo Johnny Player Special leather wheel that is perfect for my needs.

yep.

Screams early 70's

I don`t think the four spoke wheel looks too modern; it reminds me of the Cutlass 442 wheels from 1970.

I never considered momo or Lecarra, THANKS. As much as I like the Grant wheels, the horn buttons seem a bit flimsy. When they get hot, they like to pop off. The more I have fiddled with them, they tend to get worse, until you find just-that-spot where they seem to hold together. Hopefully momo and others are better in this department.
And as much as I like some chrome, on a sunny day too much can cause momentary blinding reflections. Which is why I'm leaning towards satin black or silver spokes.

UPDATE: not to trash-talk Grant, their Collector's Edition stuff looks nice.

If you ordered a Lecarra from Lecarra, they will brush theirs so it would not be so shiny. Here's a Lecarra Mark 4 GT

I used a Grant GT for years. Liked it. The grip got chewed up by using the Club and looked like hell. Got the Momo and sleeve for free. Would not have spent the $400 it cost to buy. The reduced dish and diameter make it a real comfortable ergo ride for me. Sport Wheel is on the Bar. It can stay there. The greedy are selling them for megabucks (on here too). I'd rather just admire it.

I heard that people ask small fortunes for the wood grain wheels!

Just remembered, The horn button did pop off of the Grant while parked causing a neighborhood disturbance. There was some kind of upgrade that took care of it. Don't remember the details - 20 years ago.

Here it is, the 14" Grant 1160. It came with the adapter and horn button. Good ebay seller, ecustomhitch.
