Well folks i am sure many of you have answered this question a million and one times. But here goes: I have a rebuilt 3 speed (dah) 727 Transmission out of my 1969 Road Runner. My question is: What kind of trans fluid you folks like/recommend. iam told many say F Type. Oh, Oh, Oh Riellies (sic) said to try" "B and M original trick shift, part no. 80259. Any thoughts? Thanks again. Wild Bill

F type is ford only as a previous mustang guy i wouldn't think to put that in anything but a ford

Type F or Type FA. It's better for quicker/firmer shifts. It's all I use in my 727s.
The B&M Trick Shift fluid is just Type F w/ blue dye added...and costs a lot more.

I used type F. When installing a B&M shift kit they always recommend B&M oil or type F for the firm shifts like mentioned.

I have used Type F in all of my 727's without any issues.

In 1973 when it was Direct Connection, I went to one of Mopars seminars in Ohio.Larry Shepard was one of the speakers and he explained it this way,,,Dextron II was developed for the guy driving his Imperial to the office. He didn't want to feel the tranny shift and lord knows not to spill his coffee on his suit. For High Preformance use 1 quart of non detergent 30 weight oil and the rest type "F".After all these years I still remember that day.Been doing that for 43 years now and never had a failure...My 2 cents.

Type F recommended by the shop that just rebuilt my 727....................He is like 90 and has been doing them for decades.

I've run Dexron / Mercon Castrol trans fluid in our GTX and Chally. No issues.

I have no idea what fluid is in mine currently. If I drain the pan, I know it wont get even half of the oil out, will it hurt it to refill with type f? I only ask because I have had some issues with my kickdown being adjusted properly and have got the trans a bit warm. Figured I'd change out any fluid I could.

Believe it or not I have been using 303 tractor hyd fluid and it is great. I do add a quart of dextron to make it red though since it is clear. $30 for 5 gallons also. Read up on it.

Is it formulated for wet clutches and the seals? That's where my concern would be.

I do believe it is. I have to find all the specs again.

DexIII or Type F are fine. I mix and match and my 727 shifts like a raped ape either way.

July 13, 2016: Post Script/Report: well folks i selected the F type (also now known as FA) to put in my 1969, RR 727 TransThe only brands i could find, however, were house brands. Thus, I went to NAPA. NAPA rep. told me their house brand is provided by Valvoline. I bought it at 4.99 per quart. Ok, Thanks everyone for your input. I really appreciated all the comments on this issue. GO MORPAR!

let me know how you like it, I'm thinking of going the type "f" route to get my shifts a bit firmer.

Yes, I will certainly let everyone know how F type works. Funny, I installed a HUGHES rebuilt 4L60 in my 1970 Olds. I called HUGHES and asked Rep what fluid type I should put in that Trans. He said F Type! Really? Yes he responded F Type
