What's a bondo queen worth?

I've had a few conversations with this seller. Reserve is 17K. It's been on eBay twice without an opening bid. Body needs lots of work, but otherwise looks like a solid car. It was a South Carolina barn find. Not much history. Title is dated 20 years ago.

Underside is really nice as is the trunk pan...did the seller state what the issue was with the body work? Just looking at the underside I wouldn't think there would be a lot of rust....maybe wrecked???

It's been "lightly kissed" in the rear on both sides the seller 'assumes'. I believe the car was found on blocks and they could not find the rims, hence the 'general lee' wheels that they bought on the cheap to get the car trailer-ed. Supposedly cars runs and drives, but needs a little work everywhere.

The 'Chrysler Corporation' and pentastar is not visible on the VIN plate; wonder why it was painted over? Fender tag looks believable to be original to the car.

I'm thinking 10K for the body, although that could be optimistic. The little stuff like weatherstrips, wiring, etc adds up quickly. Probably a car that within a blink of the eye and you are over 30 grand.

but seeing that they painted right over the vin tag on the dash tells me

Bill, looking at cars out-of-state again I see. ;). Not sure about this one. From what you have said, from what the seller is declaring in his auction and from the pics, it feels like some strange juju going on. Although the floors and trunk look good, the seller says no rot. What's all that's happening to and around the fender tag area? I'm also looking at the gap between the fender and inner panel as well (incl. sealer goop). This is one that needs to be inspected by someone trustworthy in person (preferably with a good set of body magnets). Also, I'd like to see pics of the radiator support and trunk lip stampings.
Just remember that the BJ, R&S, etc. auctions are right around the corner in your backyard and there are tons of cars at all different levels being sold that never make it onto any of the highlight show reels. GL.

I'm 3 hours away from it hopefully someone is closer . I will say I bought a car from that area before a bunch of crap shotty work there not far from the golf and therefore rust too something feel's fishy on that one! I'd safly say I'd start bidding at $7000 maybe 8 but not much more . I will say I hope I'm wrong but there is a bunch of less then qualified people over there ripping people off saying nice car little body filler not much then you get this car and they know your not going to sand the paint off so your stuck with it

Sure thing. There's a chance I might be back out there. If so, and you go searching, I'll be with some very astute Mopar guys that will help check out cars for you.

And ... the Goodguys Southwest Nats is in Scottsdale this weekend. There might be something in the car corral. If you can't make it, have someone scope the corral for you and be ready to make a move.

Drivers quarter is buckled about 6" in front of bumper.

Pass side has a lot of bondo in that same area and doesn't mate with extension well..

There's your "lightly tapped" damage, but what else?

Fender tag and inner fenders pitted and painted over.

Low option green car needing what could be substantial quarter and rear bumper area work.

I'd want pics of the area directly behind the bumper and frame ends.

My 2 cents, don't settle for something you're not completely happy with. Something better or something exactly what you're looking for always pops up when you least expect it. I've been through the same thing as many people here have. Good luck.

I would say, $10,000-$15,000 just in the restoration work for the body to be safe. Just let that sink in, you would have $30,000 into a car that's a dime-a-dozen. If you're going to buy a project, at least let it be in the $5,000-$8,000 range and understand exactly what you're getting into -in person-. At that price point, it's an easy swap to a GEN III HEMI and drivetrain or anything else you may want to create a unique car. When we start talking project cars at nearly $20,000, it's a bit alarming..

My $.02, Most cars on ebay are over-priced. Depends on what are your plans for it? If you are looking for that exact car for sentimental reasons and are not concerned about it being an investment then negotiate with the guy after the auction is over. I don't think it will get up to the reserve price. I'd say the $15,000 would probably be a conservative restoration price but you could cut some corners and be close to that. Then that would put you over $30,000 and I don't think you'd get that back out of the car. I'd say find you one already running and driving for $30,000.
