Has anyone here ever tried out a 69 RR 440 six pack car in NHRA class racing? Like stock or super stock? How competitive are they? Just throwin the idea around.
I can't answer your question, but I sure would love to see that!
Thanks Budnicks !There's a few out there,
some were successful some not so much
of the 69 1/2's B/SA, C/S D/SA E/S & SS/FA, SS/GA SS/F mostly
depends on NHRA weight & HP ratings & what years etc.
there were a few 70's & 71's too...
Very cool. I met Mike Smith and Terry Welsh.. the "Smith and Welsh" on the fender of "Project Six Pack" above. That was my favorite car of all time. They were both great Stock Eliminator minds. Mike and Terry would come to our monthly cruise night. They would offer help on my '69 6bbl Road Runner, and I always looked forward to seeing them. Tragically they both passed recently... Mike to a car accident, and Terry to a heart attack. They will both be missed and remembered by me. RIP my friends.I supplied (sponsored) the FENTON WHEELS on the Super Stock Magazine C/S car in Pix #1. I was in charge of the FENTON NHRA MAJOR SPONSOR PROGRAM during that time period. Went on to be Senior VP and General Manager of the company in later years. I was with Fenton from about 1969 thru 1982. I probably shipped free of charge about 1000 Fenton Wheels to drag racers around the country during that time period, all they had to do was put the decal on the side of the car and if they won a NHRA race the got paid contingency money. (inside story of major sponsors during that time period: We wanted Dyno Don Nicholson the run our wheels and he wanted our wheels and he agreed, after we paid him $10,000 per year to run them. Sox & Martin, Jenkins and Landy were locked in with other wheel companies (Keystone and Crager) with sponsor paychecks a whole lot more than that...
About 1975 I wish I would have stashed away a few hundred pair of the 15x3.5 front wheels and a few hundred pair of the 15x11 rear wheels (like the ones in the picture of the Super Stock Magazine car pictured above).I'd love to find a set of Fentons for my 69 GTX A12 !
