68 Charger For Sale On CL - Opinions Needed

Hence, is why you do not understand.......I have restored 4 chargers and stripped apart probably 30-40......

When it comes to rust buckets chargers are number one in that list.....When it comes to installing panels incorrectly chargers are number one on that list....when it comes to bondo buckets we'll you get it now right?

There are key areas on chargers that give away the degree of bondo. The main key area on this car is the rear dutchman panel and the panel replacement. That speaks volumes to the type of paint job your getting....I bet if you tested the paint thickness on this it would be triple the manufactures spec on mils.....Thick bodywork/paint, hot sun and elements you will experience the horror of botched paint job....Then you can whip out another 15k just to redo the exterior....So that 35k car turns into a 50k and thats not including anything else needed....

BTW charger prices have not dropped since I do not know when......and to elude that FBBO is the root cause...Why don't you take yourself over to http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index and post this car over there and see what those guys do to this car...Man if you think we are the root of all evil I cannot imagine what you would say about them. BTW the assessments they give over there are spot on....very similar to the ones here.

If your only buying it to drive the Sh## out of it and don't care about future paint issues and possible mechanical/electrical problems then it is that persons type of car.....

It's too easy to take 4 words and make the whole post about them. My post is not just about this car - or even close to it. I've had these thoughts about most cars that come up here for sale. I'm speaking in general terms. I've had my GTX for 47 years and do know a little about those and roadrunners. I see the same kind of commentary about those models - and most others. Reread my post and maybe you'll get the point I was trying to make in general. I'm not interested in a pissing contest - but am curious about what I stated.

do not have the expertise a lot of the guys do
How about 9 words, preposition and a vowel?

This along with your unfamiliarity of chargers is why you may not grasp what some of us are saying....You have had your X for forty seven years, great! Have you undergone a current restoration in todays market? Paint, bodywork, buying parts, restoring parts, panels, glass etc etc,,,,It is NOT the same ten years ago, 20 years ago or 47.....It is extremely pricey in this market and people do not want to get hosed. Hence is why they come to these forums to gain an opinion from the mopar crowd. Once they gather their material then they make a prudent decision.....They don't want to spend a ton and find out to spend a ton later...

Some people here know what they are talking about, some roll with an experts comments here and a few have no clue of what they are talking about.....but thats everywhere....

GTX/roadrunner will never, ever even touch the charger prices...thats a given and you and me with GTX's have to suck that one up. Especially, when there are 3-4x more chargers than X's around....but thats not what people want..

And when they whip out 30k plus what things are pointed out to them here in the thread or another forum aids them into either loving the car or covering it up in the garage despising it....

Moparnation, is it that the body lines are not as sharpe or crisp to use another word as they should be? Would that be indicator that the car is bonded up? My car looked like that and after it was media blasted and eventually repainted it was obvious even to a non auto body person.
I do have to agree with GetX that this can be a tough crowd but maybe that can be a help with some more experienced guys having a better eye for some flaws.
Steve...whats up brother.....

That could be or they never finished the new panels correctly to sharpen the lines......Focus on the dutchman panel area pics. Look how wide the wheel well lips are and no body plug holes cut out. If you cannot do the simple things correct then think about the big picture...It tells all...

Hey all. Appreciate everyone's comments here. Better to come here & get opinions/input before getting on a plane or dropping $. Saves more time & $ in the long run.

I too appreciate the knowledge and place the advice in high regard.

If you are like me, you are not getting any younger and need to either lower your standards, or raise your price threshold to get into a Charger.

The experts here give great advice, but as others have pointed out the 'valuation' part is impossible to get consensus. If you are shopping around 30 just try to get what you want and take the advice here to avoid the nightmares, or at least be prepared for some expected down the road expenses.

Good Luck!

My opinion.....too much non matching stuff, non original parts to warrant the price. That is without seeing the body work in person. It might be worth checking out in person if the seller is flexible on the price as all the problems are negotiating points. But, seeing it in person would be necessary either way. Trunk pan does look sketchy, rusty leaf springs. Non restored undercarriage?

I think the advice here has been spot on for this charger even if they do command a higher price. if the comments about us bashing every car here someone ask about
brings the price down I would be very happy. I say this because i'm a mopar lover not a car flipper so the money value or resale value has little to do with my mopar purchases. this crap is exactly why our hobby will die someday because the younger kids who just love cars will never be able to afford them.

Humm VERY Interesting! This popped up on ebay, looks like the same exact car but now is blackened out in the tail light area. Model definitely adds to the ebay ad though....enough to distract you from seeing that's it's probably the same car from the CL ad but just dressed up a little differently. Run don't walk away from this one....

I'm sorry, was there a car in that listing? :p

Yep, same exact car. It will be listed for a long time for that price.
