Hey guys not near a computer right now but need some help. The shop working on my car just sent me this info.

Thanks in advance,
Roger

Head- 2843506-6
Engine- 246813-7 LL Date code on block 5-17-67
Transmission- PK2892031K 23647333.
The mechanic working on the car said the heads and engine are 1967 but he doesn't know about the transmission.

not 506 it is 906...2843906....The date stamp see pic below...906 is the correct head so once valve covers are on no one will know the date..

what is your cars build date? Is 5/17.67 the casting date on the block? The key important stamp is on the stamp pad should be D for 68..See pic below

that Transmission is for a 1968 A,B,and C body four barrel engine

Awesome. Fender tag date is 1/22/68. Yes that's the block casting Date. I've asked for pictures as well.

That number was used on the 383 dart, sport Satellite, and charger 383 four barrel engines, and the C body four barrel cars.
oh yes, and the Cuda.

The ID stamp pad will have the assembly date as well along with the "D" for 68...Also is there a vin stamp on the block where the trans attaches to the block?

I haven't kept up, what model is your car by the way?

beautiful car they are! It looks like a may 8th assembly date for your engine. did you locate the vin# on the engine and transmission ok?

Casting date on the side of the block is NOT assembly date...the actually assembly date is on the ID stamp pad..

The actual cars build date is very important here to coordinate with the actual assembly date, if the block has a vin stamp will seal that deal but not every 68 got a vin stamp either....

yes, the 5-8 on the pad is the assembly date for that engine. what projected build date is on the fender tag? as long as the last eight digits are on the driver side rear lip of the block with corresponding number on the transmission where the two meet, you got it made. Heck, with a 68 charger any engine is good! I have had mine since 1985.

they are like money in the bank.

That's not his pad....that's an example of the net...

I see! I had to read the very first post in detail. The pad will tell all. as for casting dates, I have a Jan 70' casting (440) with a 1972 VIN# on it. Apparently Chrysler had an over supply of 440 engines by then, and were using them up.

No worries....I have been waiting for him to get a picture of the ID pad and if it has a vin.....

After seeing what people are paying for rusted out hulks resembling a 68' Charger
Rebel is truly lucky to have one regardless of engine presently in the car.

I think he just wants to understand what he has and what a shop is telling him.....Thats where a numbers guy like myself tries to educate him....

Anyone whom has a classic car of any make or brand is truly lucky whether it is a charger or a camaro....I do not care about what a car is worth.....Never have, I am just a hobbyist....Money pits that I enjoy....

Thanks Justin. When I get the car next week will get a pic of the pad.
Also appreciate everyone's input

Hey guys. Went down to the shop to see my car on the lift. Waiting for the springs to come in. Met the mechanic working on my car. Worked for Chrysler for 30 years. Here's the bottom of both sides of the block as well as the rear. Will get pic's of the trans & the pad next time I go there as they didn't come out.

Are these the #'s I need to use to see if the car is #'s matching or not? Somehow I think these are just the part #'s.

Replaced the all rockers and lifters to match the performance parts in the car. Found out I have a Purple Cam as well.

Thats the blocks casting date 5/17/67

Did you not read a previous post on where the vin # is stamped on a 68 block/trans...ITS BEHIND THE OIL SENDING UNIT by the firewall...(see pic below)

What about the ID stamp pad I attached a picture above?

8 3/4 pumpkin is the part number...referred to as the 489 case...Best case to have it has the largest pinion...
