Closest strip is in Phoenix, about 2.5 hours away. I may wait until temps get back to double digits, so around October lol.
Yeah it's hot here now too. Although it's only 90-95 the humidity is high 65-70%, heat index 100+
I flushed the radiator out again this morning. With the thermostat removed I hooked up a pipe to the upper hose, capped the upper radiator inlet and ran pressurized water into the neck as it idled. Crap just kept coming out the upper hose, mostly muddy looking water. Did this several times and should have it 90% cleaned out. The block is impossible to flush 100% without popping the freeze plugs so I popped the thermostat back in, added coolant and distilled water and took it for a 30 minute drive. On the highway, temp gauge stays in the middle, idling in traffic it raises just below the 3rd hash but no higher but when I get back on the highway temps drop to middle again. Seems to be running good.
I also have a new front tire coming from Summit as the driver side tire has a bulged out belt after 30 miles or so. They are taking care of everything including the swap.
And my rear drum grind is fixed. I hit the metal tabs on the brake shoes with a sanding disk and rounded the inside edge of the drum where the machining was not fully cut. Thanks Raybestos aka made in China.
Here is a video of the car after getting back to the house, still running cool. I do need to adjust the speedo gear because gps shows me at 65mph at 3000ish RPM but the dash speedo shows about 56-57MPH.

I was surprised that the top dollar Raybestos 'professional' rear wheel cylinders I recently purchased from my local auto parts store were made in China.
Yep, almost all hard brake parts (drums, rotors, cylinders, etc.) I have bought in the last several years are chinese. Most wheel cylinders are new chinese. I have not seen a refurbed made in the USA one in years which is why I hoard what I find so i can get them all rebuilt with stainless sleeves someday, including my master cylinder.
More issues with the tire/wheel. I received the new tire, had the old one pulled, new one installed and....the rim has a bounce to it so they couldn't balance it. Looks to be the hub center as he showed me the wheel on the machine. He pulled it and remounted it a few times, same result. So I have a new tire on an unusable rim and a bad tire unmounted. Summit is sending a new rim.

Yea, their customer service is tops. I did not feel a front end vibration when driving it either. On the old tire, where the bulge was it is missing a belt so it is just rubber that stretches out when inflated. Crazy. They are crediting me the cost of a mount and balance too.

Furthermore, the X sounds great, looks great also....Your short trip, bro what a prick tease that was! lol....I like the rpm's on your tach on the shortest trip ever, appears to be dialed in well

Haha! I wanted to get a longer video while on the road but I don't have anything to hold my phone. And I had an issue with a stumble I was busy diagnosing. I ended up blocking off the crossover port in the carb and installing an Edelbrock high volume, low pressure fuel pump which cured the stumble.
Now, I may end up swapping out the governor for a lower shifting one. It seems to be running out of steam at 5800 so I wanted to call Hughes and ask them. I think a 5400 governor will work better. But I was romping on it pretty good last night and it was running great. And I am happy all lights and accessories are up and running. I also installed a heater panel light bar that I had from a 1970 so I can see the controls at night.

Shouldn't you be able to change your shift point a little with the kickdown linkage?
Yes, but it isn't the correct way. If you make the linkage shorter, the shifts lower, longer and they go higher. But it has to do with line pressure. Change the linkage length and it alters part throttle shifts as well. With a governor, you keep the correct pressures and shift points.

I put the max wedge governor in mine, supposed to shift @ 5800 which is what I want with my combo.
That is what I have right now. I talked to Hughes and he said 5400rpm would be better for my combo. My peak HP comes in at 5100 and peak torque at 4500. No need for me to wind it that high when I am not getting any more out of it. It pulls great to 5500-5600 but just runs out of steam.
Update. I have been driving it to work without issue. Runs and drives great, everything works. The fuel gauge shows 3/4 when full but I can deal with that. Temps are staying 180ish. It is actually pretty quiet and boring lol. 3000 rpm has me at 64mph. I need to get a different speedo gear at some point.
Today I received my 5400 rpm governor with some swag lmao. This is how it came from John...
Candy makes everything easier! So, I gathered my tools and started governor surgery. This is where I am glad I put in an exhaust that is easy to pull down. The trans crossmember has to come out as well as the mount itself to gain access to the external snap ring that holds the extension to the trans body. Have good external snap ring pliers as this one is a pain. I jack the rear up to keep fluid loss to a minimum. Then a transmission jack under the pan.
And once all the stuff is out of the way the extension gets pulled back and you can see the governor.
The large internal snap ring comes out as well as the e clip then R&R (the e clip is a royal pain to get on as you need one hand to hold the axle pin down on the opposite side). So, I have the new one in, and extension bolts hand tight. Came in to cool off then I will button it up and take it for a spin with some video hopefully
