Cross Ram or Long Ram?

I have a tech question here regarding the proper term for this intake. I see a lot of people calling it a cross ram, but I refer to the cross ram as the Hemi-style intake (bottom), and call this one the Long Ram (I know, sonoramic long ram, to be technically correct).

Is calling this a "Cross Ram" incorrect?

I think ma-mopar called it a sonoramic like you stated but not a cross ram like the bottom picture.

I just call it totally cool! That is one thing about ma-mopar. She was never afraid to step out of the box. I am glad that being over seas owned they have kept that concept going even farther yet!

If someone said to me I have a crossram I'd think Max Wedge or Hemi style.
I'd say it's a crossram but it's usually called a longram in my area. MO

Top pic longram, crossram on the bottom...but it's fun sometimes to go to a show and switch the names just to get the purists' panties in a bunch

There is a long ram & short ram both for the Chrysler 300.
And crossram for max wedge & hemi.

If I remember right, the 'rat roaster' was made by edelbrock starting in the late 60s? Similar look of the cross ram but you could get them for different carb setups, I thought they were first made for one of the racing classes and never worked great, compared to other setups

Ran a rat roaster for 14 yrs, it does not look like a crossram at all, THEY WERE MADE FOR CLASSES THAT HAD TO HAVE AN ORIG. MANIFOLD SHAPE BACK THEN. . We did try a crossram, but it didn`t make the heavy ss/da car any faster.. Those long rams may look cool, but they are actually piss poor, gas puddling and harder to get started.

long ram/short ram refers to the runner length. short is 15", long is 30". there were "long ram" style manifolds that had the short 15" runners. all "short rams" ('62 and later super stock) used 15" runners.
rat roaster was an edelbrock in line 2x4bbl for street hemis (one plenum like the single 4bbl nascar intake). I think there was a top made (not 100% sure) for the rat roaster that had the carbs splayed left and right for a cross ram substitute. this is really old stuff. the "long rams" didn't flow much air and the "short rams" weren't a great deal better.

Edelbrock did make a top with offset carbs. Not sure if was the same bottom but I think so.

I read somewhere, that the original owners took the long crossrams off almost immediately and replaced them with a regular manifold.

i have a friend who took the long manifolds off his 300g and put the inline 2x4 set on. people just didn't know how to tune carbs back then. my friend claimed a cold weather start/run problem for the cross ram set-up. something that wouldn't be an issue with the tuning "tools" we have today.

Could you imagine having to do a valve lash adjustment on one of those, not alone just changing the plugs...
