1969 GTX....The T stands for tetanus

Just for the heck of it did you try a wot with the gas cap off?

No, but I can. It has a solid cap and both tank vents in place. Do you think the heat could be creating a vacuum hindering the mechanical pump from pulling gas?

Probably not the heat per se.maybe he's thinking not venting good enuf? Or could you have a slight crack somewhere in suction line, pulling in air?

Heat warning today and they aren't kidding, 114*. I went out and got 5 gallons of Sunoco 110 and mixed in should yield around 96 octane. I forgot what real gas smelled like.

I also re gapped my plugs to .040". My fuel pump should be here later but I was also planning on flushing out the radiator again once the sun goes down.

Well at 114* you don't really care if the choke is shutting at all!

Choke is wired open. It is a hot mess out there in the garage. I have the regulator test fit up. I still need to run the 3/8 hardline to the inlet side. Then I can move on to mounting and wiring the pump.

I got the fuel line ran up front, going to slip the heat sleeve on and finish it up tomorrow.

I also have the fuel pump mounted. Now, there isn't a whole lot of real estate to mount it and the instructions say to mount it low to get syphon effect when pumping. So I was limited but think this should work.

I used a spare exhaust collector flange with a corner bent over and mount holes for the pump tapped. The rest has an s bend to tuck the pump near the bracket.

The bent over mount hole slips over the pass side tank hanger bolt and gets bolted up. Not shown is a clamp that will go around the tank strap and pump to keep it in place.

Nice bracket! Necessity is the mother of invention! So when are you driving that to Tucson? The Cops and Rodder show is in November. I have a windshield gasket for you to change out.

It was amazing how easily it was repurposed and that is the only place it would work. And if I knew what a pain in the rear this fuel delivery was going to be I would have went FITech.

November works for me, I am in desperate need of cool weather. It is still 101* at 11:42pm according to my phone!!!!!

Well the fuel delivery system has been a thorn in my side as well for the FiTech. Yea when we stayed in Phoenix to get my speedo/clock fixed I had forgotten how oppressive the heat can be at night. Where I live the altitude is such that once the sun goes down it temperature drops fast. It is rarely above 80 by 10pm and rarely above 70 at 6am.

I have to go to the Cops and Rodder as my sisters husband is the Chief of Detectives for Pima County and is McGruff the Crime Dog. Obligated. I may go to the Tucson Classics, not sure yet. I am registered for the Sierra Vista one, that one is nice. In the park on grass and a nice altitude for the heat.

I thought you were going to pull some strings and get me transferred out your way? :D

Holley can bite it!! Finished up the pump install today by wiring a relay and toggle switch for the pump. Buttoned it up, connected the battery, key on, flip switch......whirring of pump along with the smell of gasoline. Shut it off, take a look under and see........

A waterfall of gas from the lousy plate. Bonus, it is a gravity feed so it keeps coming. I grab some clamps to block off the inlet and outlet hoses to get it to stop peeing. Pull the bottom plate off and the f#$%ing gasket is in crooked! Terrible QC, obviously they don't test them from the factory and didn't care about this one. I have a video I made of it gushing that I will send to Holley. The language is rated R. Never again.

So I fix their $hit and get the car running. Fuel pressure is high and I am ready to blow a gasket. The Quick Fuel regulator adjustment does nothing, in and out, stays at 9psi. I am ready to burn it down. Turn it off, make another adjustment, fire it up and the psi had changed. So I adjust it to 5 1/2 psi by adjusting while it is off and....it holds steady. No road test yet as it is way too hot still.

And the pump....sounds like a hive of angry bees. You can hear it with the engine running. I have some sound and heat mat left so I am going to cover the back seat well and see if it helps.

Sorry to hear that....I feel for ya..

My experience with the fuel injection fuel system is about the same...... What will help is that pump in NO WAY needs 14V to pump as much fuel you need. I put a switching regulator on mine with a pot to dial in an output voltage. The car stalled at about 6.5V and at 8V will flow as much fuel as I will ever need. It is SO much quieter, 45W less power dissipated in the fuel, reduces the fuel circulating.

Threewood now you too can post on KK's replacement parts rant!!!

Can you elaborate on the switching regulator? How to put one together? It does get louder with higher rpms and quieter at idle.

But....it holds fuel pressure right at 5.5lbs throught the rpm range and at wot. Rock solid! It actually seems to idle better and run better now which is the important part so mission accomplished.

And now that that issue is fixed the car decides to overheat...again. It creeps up and up until it is on the upper limit of the stock gauge. No change on the highway and I had the heater running. I was planning on flushing the system again so I will pull it apart and check the t stat and see if i can back flush crud out of the radiator. It never ends.
